Bruno Mars is going to Disney World! Sort of. The Grammy-winner is teaming up with the house of Mouse to create a music-drive original feature film for Disney. The plot for the film has yet to be revealed, but let’s be real: a film about watching paint dry would be great if Bruno Mars wrote the soundtrack.Deadline was first to report the news, revealing that the agreement was reached after months of discussion between Disney and Mars. Little is known about the project, but Deadline confirmed that Mars will star in and produce the feature film. The site also states that Mars will likely write and perform an all-original soundtrack. What happens if you combine the power of Frozen’s “Let It Go” with “Uptown Funk”? We’re almost scared to find out. Almost.The “Finesse” singer announced the news of his latest collaboration on Twitter, sharing a video from a recording studio. Our future Disney prince keeps his back to the camera as he tickles the ivories and gets into the Disney spirit with a glittering star filter and a triumphant fist thrown in the air to conclude the video. We’re already inspired. “If your heart is in your dream, no request is too extreme, when you wish upon a Star” writes Mars, adding the hashtags #MarsMeetsTheMouse and #ImGoingToDisneyland. Mars’ doesn’t have much experience in feature films, with his only credits including a small role in Honeymoon In Vegas and lending his voice to the animated movie Rio 2. But he does have experience in writing undeniable hits and oozing charm, so there’s that. Plus, 11 Grammys, 10 American Music Awards, six iHeartRadio Awards, a JUNO Award, and 12 Nickelodeon Kid’s Choice Awards. Yay kids!Mars may be best known for his sexually charged pop songs, but the multi-talented musician has also written music for a younger audience. Parents everywhere were excited to see Mars appear on a 2011 episode of Sesame Street. If you’re going to get a kid’s song stuck in your head, make it a Bruno Mars’ kid’s song.
Mars has been relatively quiet since the release of his 2016 album 24K Magic and the end of his tour in 2018. The singer did head back to the studio with Charlie Wilson for the single “Forever Valentine,” which was released in January.Disney’s big week continues with news of their partnership with Bruno Mars. On February 3, Disney announced what may be the largest acquisition in film history. Disney won the bidding war for Lin-Manuel Miranda’s Broadway hit Hamilton, paying $75 million to win the worldwide rights to the show in order to bring it from the stage to the big screen.
