Bebe Rexha is set to make her feature film debut, and she'll be in good company. The popstar has just joined the cast of Kristen Bell’s upcoming comedy
Queenpins, which tells the true story of the biggest coupon counterfeit scam in US history. It’s like the TLC channel, but funny and with better acting.Rexha will star opposite Bell, who will take on the lead role as a suburban housewife. Fed up with her life and ignored and dismissed by her husband and the rest of society, Bell’s character regains control by starting an illegal coupon club that takes millions of dollars in savings from big corporations while passing on the deals to other members of the club.
Queenpins will be Rexha’s first time in a live action feature film. The “Meant To Be” singer lent her famous voice to a character in the 2019 animated film
UglyDolls. As for her character in
Queenpins, STXfilms chairman Adam Fogelson told
The Hollywood Reporter that Rexha will “add so much fun, talent and personality to this cast" in her portrayal of Tempe Tina, “an eccentric computer hacker who helps our heroines with their coupon scam.”Rexha celebrated her casting announcement on Instagram, sharing a news story about the film and writing “Can't wait for this.”
The movie will act as a reunion for Bell and two of the other confirmed stars, Vince Vaughn and Kirby Howell-Baptiste. Vaughn and Bell both starred in the 2009 comedy
Couples Retreat, while Bell and Howell-Baptiste have worked together several times on the small screen. The pair co-starred on
The Good Place, as well as on the 2019 reboot of Bell’s breakthrough drama
Veronica Mars. Howell-Baptiste is also known for her work on
Killing Eve, Barry, Love and
Why Women Kill.Paul Walter Hauser, who is best known for his roles in
BlacKkKlansman, Richard Jewell and most recently Spike Lee’s
Da 5 Bloods, will also star in
Queenpins. Hauser recently reunited with his with his
I, Tonya director Craig Gillespie for 2021’s live action
Cruella, which will star Emma Stone in the title role as the infamous Disney Dalmatian-hater.Aron Gaudet and Gita Pullapilly wrote the screenplay for
Queenpins, and the husband and wife duo will also direct the comedy. The film is based on the 2012 case that involved the arrest of the three Phoenix, Arizona women who had $40 million in counterfeit coupons when their homes were raided by local police. Officers in charge of the case at the time
described the women’s homes as similar to the residences of ‘high ranking members of a drug cartel,’ with items including $240,000 in vehicles, 22 guns, and a 40-foot speed boat. Oh yeah, this is a movie we need to see.On October 28, Bell shared a video of herself on set wearing a blond wig and showing off her COVID-friendly mask and visor. Bell responded to a fan who asked what project she was working on, replying “Queenpins” and adding a fire emoji. Phoenix broke records this year by having more
than 144 days over 100 degrees Fahrenheit, so yes, fire emoji indeed.
