The Eternals, Marvel Studios' upcoming project from Oscar-winning director Chloé Zhao, will hit theatres in the fall and, dare we say, the second trailer has us even more pumped than the first one.
The new movie introduces some powerful heroes who have been hidden in the shadows of the world for 7,000 years and they were sent to earth by the Celestials to fight against the evil Deviants and defend humanity.
The film will also address why the Eternals didn't interfere when some #BigEvents took place in the Avengers movies and answer burning questions like: "Why didn't you guys feel like Thanos literally obliterating half of humanity was a reason to come lend a superhero hand?"
In the trailer, Kit Harrington's human character Dane is seen asking Gemma Chan's Sersi why the Eternals didn't get involved in the fight against Thanos.
“We were instructed not to interfere in any human conflicts unless Deviants were involved,” Sersi responded.
The all-star roster for Eternals includes Angelina Jolie, Kumail Nanjiani, Salma Hayek and Gemma Chan. Everyone in the cast is full of power, confidence and hotness and really all seem like quality relationship material. Can we date them all please?
Earlier this week Entertainment Weekly gave fans a behind-the-scenes look at the newest additions to the Marvel world.
Jolie plays Thena, one of the group's elite warriors who can manifest weapons out of thin air. She revealed to the outlet that she took up ballet training to capture her character's effortless grace and taught herself how to use different weapons.
"It is one of the weirdest things to train for because you're throwing things, grabbing things, breaking things in half," she explained. "You feel a little nuts. You're just throwing your hand out as if you're thinking, 'Is that a sword? Is that a spear? Is it a lasso? What am I doing?' Then you get into it and it gets really fun, but it's a puzzle."
Nanjiani plays Kingo, who has the power to manipulate energy with his own hands and makes a living as a Bollywood star. The actor has to perform some Bollywood dance numbers in the film, which he admits was the biggest challenge.
"I'm not a dancer," Nanjiani said. "I have zero rhythm. I had to take months and months of classes to do this. So it was very challenging, but I know that if we could pull this off and capture the joy and excitement of a Bollywood dance number in a Marvel movie, that would be special — because I grew up watching Bollywood movies.
"I knew every Bollywood movie until like the late '90s. So to be able to do an homage to the genre of movies that I loved and grew up watching was really special."
Hayek stars as Ajak, the Eternals' powerful leader who has the ability to heal. The character was originally written as a man in the comics, but Hayek was the one who suggested that the film leans into the character's feminity and approach her as the mother figure of the group.
"She's full of contradictions," the actress said. "She's the bridge between the Eternals and the Celestials, and it's never easy to hold two sides together."
Chan stars as Sersi, who has the ability to manipulate non-sentient matter.
"She can change things, and she's sort of helped humanity along the way, in little ways," Chan explained the outlet. "She's interesting because she is this immortal being, but she's very grounded as well."
Eternals also stars Rocketman's Richard Madden, Totem star Lia McHugh, Atlanta actor Brian Tyree Henry, The Walking Dead actress Lauren Ridloff, Dunkirk actor Barry Keoghan and Don Lee.
Lee plays Gilgamesh, who he describes as "extremely powerful and the strongest warrior of Eternals." Keoghan plays Druig, an Eternal with the ability to manipulate other people's thoughts.
Ridloff takes on the super-fast Eternal Makkari and Tyree Henry stars as Phastos, a brilliant inventor with a mind for creating weapons and technology.
McHugh's Sprite looks like a preteen but she's actually thousands of years old and Madden's Ikaris is one of the most powerful Eternals, with the ability to shoot beams of light from his eyes and fly.
