The Guccis are here and they’re as glamorous as ever. The glitzy first trailer for the anticipated House of Gucci film is here, and from the early looks of things, Lady Gaga is positively stunning in her role as Patrizia Reggiani. In fact, fans are already calling for (another) Oscar.
The actor is indeed front and centre in the trailer, which only scratches the surface of the story behind the fashion powerhouse and its family. The Ridley Scott-directed movie spans three decades of the family members’ lives, and it seems to open with Patrizia meeting and marrying Maurizio Gucci (played by Adam Driver).
The trailer is set to Blondie’s “Heart of Glass” and is a total mood thanks to the costumes, wigs, accents and cars. Given that the first-look photos from the set practically broke the internet when they were leaked earlier this year, this should probably come as zero surprise.
The film is based on the book, The House of Gucci: A Sensational Story of Murder, Madness, Glamour, and Greed, by Sara Gay Forden. It follows the fall of the Gucci empire, which was torn apart by all of the family fighting, as well as the assassination of Maurizio in 1995—a year-and-a-half after he sold his remaining stock in the company.
Patrizia was convicted of plotting the murder after her husband left her for a younger woman. She served 18 years in prison, earning the nickname Black Widow, and was released in 2016. “I don’t consider myself to be a particularly ethical person,” Gaga says as the character in the trailer. “But I am fair.” Bad Romance indeed.
Hours after the trailer dropped Lady Gaga stans were already predicting another Academy Award nomination for the actor given her accent and the juicy material from screenwriters Roberto Bentivegna and Becky Johnston.
The House of Gucci trailer also features Al Pacino as Maurizio’s uncle Aldo Gucci, Jeremy Irons as his father, Rodolfo Gucci, Salma Hayek as Patrizia’s clairvoyant friend, and an unrecognizable (and kind of scary) Jared Leto as Paolo Gucci, Maurzio’s cousin who was fired from the company.
The anticipated movie filmed earlier this year in Rome and hits theatres on November 24.
