As movies head back to theatres this summer, among them will be the long-delayed Arthurian-era epic, The Green Knight starring Dev Patel.

The fantasy/action film that was originally meant to be released in 2020 will hit IRL theatres this summer and a new full-length trailer just dropped featuring Patel’s character embarking on a classic knightly quest to preserve his kingdom’s honour.

The filmmakers behind the project describe The Green Knight as “An epic fantasy adventure based on the timeless Arthurian legend, The Green Knight tells the story of Sir Gawain (Dev Patel), King Arthur’s reckless and headstrong nephew, who embarks on a daring quest to confront the eponymous Green Knight, a gigantic emerald-skinned stranger and tester of men.

Over the course of the epic, "Gawain contends with ghosts, giants, thieves, and schemers in what becomes a deeper journey to define his character and prove his worth in the eyes of his family and kingdom by facing the ultimate challenger."

Director David Lowrey has helmed a varied selection of movies including the Casey Affleck-starring Ghost Story and Ain’t Them Bodies Saints, and Disney’s live-action Pete’s Dragon. He’s also signed on to the upcoming Peter Pan and Wendy remake.

In Lowrey’s telling of The Green Knight, Patel will star opposite Alicia Vikander, Joel Edgerton, Sarita Choudhury, Sean Harris, Kate Dickie, Barry Keoghan, and The Witch’s Ralph Ineson as the titular Evil Groot-looking Green Knight.

The trailer takes viewers to the medieval land of King Arthur, introducing us to his Knights of the Round Table, a talking fox, some enchanted forests, and grey, rocky expanses populated by giants.

Naturally, the challenge taken up by Gawain at the start of the clip results in the Knight embarking on a quest to prove his honour though his enemy poses no small threat. The Green Knight appears to be invincible (or whatever you call a being who can laugh ominously about having his head chopped off).

Dev Patel stans (and literally anyone with eyes) are not okay after that trailer drop. Talk about hot summer knights amiright?

The Green Knight makest thine big screen debut on July 30 and TBH, we’re pretty much ready to call this the Summer of Dev.
