As the film franchise you can always count on to get your summer started, Fast & Furious's latest incarnation – cleverly titled F9 – just dropped a new trailer.

This one comes a year after the original trailer dropped in January 2020, when the movie was slated for a May 2020 release. But then, you know, a pandemic happened.

The best thing about F9 is that it'll be a reunion of sorts, with Dominic Toretto (Vin Diesel), Jordana Brewster (Mia Toretto), Letty Ortiz (Michelle Rodriguez), Bow Wow (Twinkie!), Roman Pearce (Tyrese Gibson), Tej Parker (Ludacris), and Magdalene Shaw (Helen Mirren).

The biggest shocker, however, as revealed a year ago, is the return of fan-favourite Sung Kang as Han Lue (#justiceforhan), who was presumed dead since 2006’s The Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift.

What's nearly as good and hilarious is that the always delightful John Cena will be playing Jakob Toretto, the third Toretto sibling. Jakob will be seen joining forces with Cipher, Charlize Theron's evil hacker who debuted in The Fate of the Furious, and encourages her partner to kill off his brother. Question is: will he do it?!

This heart-pumping in more ways than one trailer also offers a peek at Dom watching a video of Brian O'Conner, played by the late Paul Walker, with his son.

In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, director Justin Lin, who previously helmed movies three to six, explained the inclusion of Walker: "Yeah, that is a constant issue and something I always want to be very respectful of. The fact that Brian O'Conner is still alive in this universe needs to be acknowledged. We're treating F9 as the first film of the last chapter, and at some point it is something I think about and how we can really show his presence but in a respectful way. So it's always ongoing. I feel like in 9 we've done it in a way that I feel good about, but, as we go into trying to wrap up the saga, it's something that I will continue to always be thinking through."

F9 is currently set to hit theatres on June 25. And before you fret, a 10th and 11th film are already planned to cap off the franchise, as are other spin-offs, including a sequel to Hobbs & Shaw.
