For the past few months filmmaker and actor Olivia Wilde has been sharing some behind the scenes snaps from her latest project, Don’t Worry Darling (a.k.a. When Harry Met Olivia). Today, Wilde released a still from the movie, a photo that features star Florence Pugh seemingly trapped inside a glass case of emotion. Spoiler alert: that emotion is terror.
Pugh headlines the film with Harry Styles in a supporting role. The two play a husband and wife living out an idealistic 1950s-era life in what seems like utopia. And it is — sort of. The experimental community appears perfect in every way, but soon Pugh’s character begins to suspect that something more sinister is going on… and that her husband's glamorous company might be in on it.
From the shot shared by Wilde, we’d say that Pugh’s character’s suspicions are, regrettably, correct. Hot tip: Don’t believe Olivia Wilde when she tells you not to worry.
The psychological thriller is Wilde’s follow-up to the directorial success she found with her debut, Booksmart, which was a very different kind of cinematic project. Wilde has, however, re-teamed with Katie Silberman, one of the Booksmart screenwriters, for this forthcoming film. Along with Pugh and Styles, the movie also features Gemma Chan, Kiki Layne, Nick Kroll, and Chris Pine as a mysterious cult leader. Wilde herself also has an onscreen role.
Since filming wrapped in February, Wilde has shared tributes to her two leads and many of her cast and crew on Instagram (even the PAs).
Of Styles she posted, "No joke, it is harrrrrd to find actors who recognize why it might be worth it to allow for a woman to hold the spotlight. Enter: @harrystyles, our 'Jack.’ Not only did he relish the opportunity to allow for the brilliant @florencepugh to hold center stage as our 'Alice', but he infused every scene with a nuanced sense of humanity,” she wrote. “He didn't have to join our circus, but he jumped on board with humility and grace, and blew us away every day with his talent, warmth, and ability to drive backwards."
