Self-care has never seemed so important, especially after this past year of constant change. All that worrying can wreak havoc on our minds and bodies if we don't find a way to take care of ourselves.

Between a global pandemic, work, and getting used to a new normal, there are stressors around every corner. Regularly taking time to relax and recharge will help you in the long run without burning out or harming your health.

Self-care star Jaclyn Forbes told Etalk's Traci Melchor that self-care is different for everyone. "For me, it's just kind of going that extra mile that makes me feel good. It could be investing in my skincare. It could be taking a bath. It could be painting my nails a fun colour or lately what I've been doing is experimenting with different makeup looks," she said.

When it comes to her daily self-care activities, Forbes said that she loves to write in her journal for five minutes every morning where she writes down some gratitude notes and things that she's looking forward to.

Forbes shared some of her favourite makeup products that she includes in her self-care routine. She loves Urban Decay's Naked Wild West Eyeshadow Palette because it's the first Naked palette that has 100 per cent vegan eyeshadows.

Two more products Forbes suggests adding to your makeup collection are Covergirl's Lash Blast Clean Mascara and Smashbox's Always On Liquid Eye Liner.

"It's actually my everyday liner," she said of the liquid eye liner. "What's really cool about this Smashbox one is that it's really long-wearing water-resistant."

Self-care star Assa Cisse told Etalk's Traci Melchor and Tyrone Edwards that self-care is "more important now than ever" because we've been at home for so long. She suggests taking 10 minutes for yourself during the day because it's very important for mental health.

Cisse loves to use Dr. Roebuck's 2-in1 Mask + Scrub because it's gentle on your skin. "Starting the week off refreshed and relaxed doesn't just mean getting an eight-hour sleep. It also means getting your skin ready for the week and I've been loving this product," Cisse said.

Two more products that Cisse suggests adding to your self-care list are göt2b Be Twisted Curl Reviver and Philips sonicare ExpertClean 7300 rechargeable electric toothbrush.

"A healthy smile is the key to feeling confident both inside and out. I have to start my day with this toothbrush," she said. "It will leave you with a professional clean feel in between dentist appointments."

Halifax-based fashionista Musemo Handahu taught Etalk's Traci Melchor all about the art of recharging in order to put your best foot forward.

"To me, self-care is my way of showing gratitude to my body, saying thank you for taking me through the day," Handahu shared., adding that self-care allows us to be able to put our best foot forward.

"If we take that time to do something small, especially now with everything that's going on in the world," she said. Handahu said that taking those moments to step away and recharge is "more important than ever."

When it comes to her self-care routine, she said that it is different each day. It can be as simple as going for a walk and listening to a podcast or just laying in bed.

Handahu suggests using Neocell's Collagen Protein Peptides for joint pain, rebuilding muscles and reducing the appearance of wrinkles. She says that she adds it to her tea or coffee first thing in the morning.

Two more products that Handahu suggests adding to your self-care list are O'Keeffe's Working Hands and Oh K!'s Hyaluronic Hydrogel Mask. Both products are very moisturizing

Self-care star Zehra Allibhai shares tips to show up 'as your best self'

Self-care star Zehra Allibhai told Etalk's Tyrone that it's important to remind yourself that you are important and to show up "as your best self." She suggests thinking about your nighttime routine to help set you up for a good morning. "I work out a lot. I'm always achy and sore so I find instead of waking up sore I'll do things at night," she told Tyrone.

To take care of those sore muscles, Allibhai said that she stretches and takes a bath. Her self-care secret is adding Epsom salts to the water. "The beauty of Epsom salts is they dissolve into your skin so they're getting all this surface area to help your muscles relax so you're getting right in there and it smells really good," she said.

If you don't have time to take a bath, Allibhai suggests taking a handful of the Epsom salts and rubbing it on your body in the shower like you would with a body scrub. It allows you to still feel the benefits of magnesium sulphate.

Two more products that Allibhai suggests adding to your self-care list are the Nivea Q10 Energy night cream, to help with dry skin, and magnesium, which is really important for bone and teeth health.

Stay tuned for more self-care stars sharing their tips every Friday.
