Who is Demi Lovato’s fiancé, Jordan ‘Jutes’ Lutes

Demi Lovato got engaged over the weekend! The news about the 'Sorry Not Sorry' popstar and her partner of just over a year, Jordan 'Jute$' Lutes, was first shared by People and then late last night, the couple confirmed it themselves.

Writing on his Instagram, Lutes posted a picture of him with his fiancée, writing, “yesterday i asked my best friend to marry me and she said yes. i can’t imagine my life without you and thank god now i’ll never have to. feeling like the luckiest man alive right now. i’m so in love with you @ddlovato”

Demi also confirmed the engagement, writing on her official Instagram, “I’m still speechless. last night was the best night of my life and I can’t believe I get to marry the love of my life @jutesmusic.. My love, I’m beyond excited to marry you.. every day I’ve spent with you has been a dream come true and I can’t wait to love and cherish you forever. Here’s to the rest of our lives. I love you baby.”

So who is Jutes, the man she’s been dating officially for just over a year? Spoiler alert: he’s Canadian.

People reports that he originally hails from Ottawa and began to explore his love of music while living in Toronto. He loves to don his rap-punk singer-songwriter skills, and although he was originally signed to Capitol Records, he left that contract, and actually co-wrote a song with Demi, which is what cemented their romance.

For Demi’s music collection, 'Holy Fvck,' which came out in August 2022, the Daily Mail reported that he co-created some tracks with his future main squeeze. Jutes shared on Instagram that he contributed to the track, "Substance," which he called "one of [his] fav songs [he's] ever worked on."

By August of last year, an insider close to Demi revealed that things had turned romantic really quickly after that.  "It's a really happy and healthy relationship," the source said to People. "He's a super great guy." Although at the time Jutes wasn’t named, it was revealed that the secret love was also a musician. Following this report, the pair were spotted together in New York City for a public outing, which marks their first time being pictured together as a couple.

Hollywood Life reported at the time the pair was seen holding hands as they strolled through the city before her appearance on "The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon."

Then, later in August, there was no mistaking how deeply in love the couple were when Jutes posted a series of heartfelt photos with Demi for her 30th birthday in 2022, gushing about his undying affection for her.

In the caption, the 'Out the Door' singer-songwriter shared in part: "happy birthday baby. ur a 30 year old minx and i'm the luckiest schmuck in the world cuz i get to call u mine. making u laugh has become my new obsession cuz ur smile literally cures my depression (there's a song lyric in there somewhere)." 

We also know that Demi and Jute$ definitely have things in common, including their journey through sobriety. Demi has been very open and frank about her near fatal overdose in 2018, which she documented in “Dancing With The Devil.”  Jute$ has also spoken publicly about his sobriety journey. In July 2022, the Ottawa native took to Twitter (now known as X) to share that he hit a 100-day milestone in his sobriety journey.

This isn’t the first time Demi has been engaged to be married. The singer-songwriter's last major public romance was with actor Max Ehrich, which began in early 2020. The two were engaged by July of that year, but they called off the engagement two months after the proposal took place amid rumours and accusations that Ehrich was using Demi to boost his fame, and that he had actually fancied Demi’s former BFF Selena Gomez. Demi opened up about the break up in her “Dancing With The Devil” doc, saying she felt fooled by him. 

 "The hardest part of the breakup was mourning the person that I thought he was,"  she said in the doc. "I don't know how to give my heart to someone after this."

Looks like she has found her happy ending! Congrats Demi and Jordan!
