If Tom Hanks is going to do something, he’s going to do it in the best, most charming way possible. Play any role in Hollywood? The best. Be humble and funny in interviews and speeches? No one better. Be the first celebrity to get coronavirus and respond in a sensible and safe way while keeping fans calm and updated? An air high-five to you, Mr. Hanks. The beloved actor and his also supremely talented and lovely wife (these two – the best!) are keeping the world updated following their diagnosis of COVID-19. The pair were in Australia where Tom was filming the Baz Luhrmann biopic of Elvis Presley when they both contracted the virus. Tom announced the pair’s diagnosis himself on Instagram, alerting fans in a way that was both responsible and soothing. Such a Tom Hanks move.[video_embed id='1920387']RELATED: Tom Hanks and Rita Wilson’s kids say they’re doing well amid coronavirus diagnosis[/video_embed]On Wednesday, Hanks kept things on brand for his social media and posted a picture of a discarded latex glove in a garbage bin. The lover of lost single gloves, Hanks revealed that he and Wilson had both experienced symptoms that were consistent with coronavirus, including chills, a fever, and fatigue. The couple were tested, and the results were positive. Hanks confirmed that the couple would remain in isolation while being observed and following whatever advice their doctors gave in order to help contain the outbreak. Now Hanks has shared an update from isolation and has kept things peppy, happy, up-tempo and snappy.Hanks opened the message by saying that he and wife Rita are being given excellent care in Australia, confirming that the pair remain in isolation to ensure they don’t spread the virus to anyone else. “There are those for whom it could lead to a very serious illness. We are taking it one-day-at-a-time,” said Hanks. “There are things we can all do to get through this by following the advice of experts and taking care of ourselves and each other, no?”The Oscar winner ended his message in a very Jimmy Dugan manner, writing “Remember, despite all the current events, there is no crying in baseball. Hanx.” It may just be a simple message sprinkled with common sense, but we do feel a little bit better about things after hearing from Hanks. He’s still got it.
Hanks and Wilson have received the outpouring of support that is expected for the golden couple, with many of their famous friends commenting on Hanks’ Instagram post. “It’s hard to be the example all of the time you guys,” wrote Sharon Stone. “Love u both,” wrote Gwen Stefani. “Thanks Hanx!! Be well,” added Skeet Ulrich.Following Hanks’ initial post, the couple’s son and aspiring rapper Chet Hanks shared his own update. Echoing his parents’ sensible message, just with a lot more ink, Chet said he had recently spoken to his parents, who appeared calm despite their diagnosis. “They’re not worried about it, they’re not tripping, but they’re going through the necessary health precautions, obviously. I don’t think it’s anything to be too worried about. I appreciate everyone’s concern and the well-wishes, but I think it’s all gonna be alright,” said Hanks. “I appreciate it and everybody stay safe out there. Much love.”
