It has been almost 25 years since Britney Spears released her debut album …Baby One More Time and changed the pop world forever. Since then, Spears has been celebrated, ridiculed, praised, and pitied, but one thing that has remained a constant is the support of her loyal fan base. In recent years, that’s largely included members of the #FreeBritney movement, but Spear’s support also extends to Hollywood’s elite.
As one of the best-known entertainers in the world, Spears has consistently delivered iconic music videos and performances throughout her career. A go-to for lip sync battles, Halloween costumes, and inspiration for the red carpet, it’s Britney’s world and we’re just here to pay homage.
From Marvel stars to supermodels, pop singers to actors -- here are a few of the times the biggest names in Hollywood paid tribute to the biggest name. It’s Britney, B.
Dancing With The Stars was all about Britney this week and that included two costume changes by host Tyra Banks. The supermodel first paid tribute to OG Brit, complete with pigtails and a white dress shirt. “Thigh highs and fierce eyes! No one can do it like the legend @britneyspears, but you know I sure as hell tried,” wrote Banks on Instagram. Later in the show, Banks took on one of Spears’ most iconic performances with an ode to her 2001 VMA “I’m A Slave 4 U” green dress and matching snake. Thankfully, no real snakes this time.
While most of Britney’s memorable looks have been as a solo artist, one of best-known red carpet moments was with ex-boyfriend Justin Timberlake at the 2001 American Music Awards. The pair gave new meaning to the term "Canadian Tuxedo" with their denim on denim on denim (plus more denim) outfits. Katy Perry and Riff Raff revived the Levi’s-friendly fashion moment at the 2014 VMAs. We are here for the durability and alllll the pockets.

For a look that screams "more is not enough," supermodel Devon Windsor and husband Jonathan Barbara put their own spin on Britney and Justin’s denim ensemble for Halloween 2018. The result was all treats, no tricks.

Glee dedicate not one, but TWO full episodes to Ms. Spears during its six-season run. Honestly, we would have been fine with a whole season of Brit Brit. In its first Spears-centric episode in Season 2, trips to the dentist’s office (hai John Stamos) and some local anesthetics caused members of the Glee club to hallucinate about performing in Spear’s music video, including Brittany (Heather Morris) in “I’m A Slave 4 U” and “Me Against The Music” and Rachel (Lea Michele) in “…Baby One More Time.” Spears even appeared as herself in the episode, which aired in September 2010.

What’s better than one Britney Spears tribute? How about five. During Season 1 of Netflix’s hit series Ginny & Georgia, four characters took on Ms. Spears for the Halloween episodes, channeling Brit’s famous music videos, including “Toxic,” “…Baby One More Time,” “Me Against the Music” and “Oops…I Did It Again.” Sara Waisglass, who plays Maxine Baker, even had a mid-party outfit change that resulted in the super sexy snake moment from the 2001 VMAs.

Rebel Wilson kept fans updated from the 2021 set of her upcoming Netflix film Senior Year, which stars the actor as a woman who tries to go back to high school after spending 20 years in a coma. Part of the character’s school experience includes recreating Spear’s “(You Drive Me) Crazy” video from 1999. Wilson shared pictures and a TikTok from the set, writing “Can you tell that I’m the biggest Britney fan! And so in my new movie Senior Year my character LOVES her and we use her as inspo for our cheer squad.” We are so into that.
There’s been no shortage of Britney tributes on Lip Sync Battle and we get it – we want to feel as cool as Britney Spears any day of the week. Model Kate Upton brought out her inner Britney during a 2017 episode where she performed “…Baby One More Time.” When your competition is Ricky Martin, it’s Britney or bust.
Kaley Cuoco took on Josh Gad during a 2016 episode of Lip Sync Battle and battled the Frozen star with her rendition of “I’m A Slave 4 U,” complete with a (fake) snake.
Marvel stars Clark Gregg and Hayley Atwell faced off during a 2016 episode of Lip Sync Battle and, in a match made for superheroes, Gregg embodied one of the greatest superheroes of all time – Britney Spears in her video for “Toxic.”
We’ve said it before and we’ll say it again, the only thing better than one Britney Spears is many Britney Spearses. The cast of Queer Eye honoured the patron saint of pop superstardom, with Bobby Berk, Tan France and Antoni Porowski taking on “Work Bitch” while Karamo Brown and Jonathan Van Ness performed as Beyonce and Lady Gaga for “Telephone.” Excuse us while we dream of a world where Britney, Bey and Gaga share a stage for realzies…
Millions of Britney Spears fans around the world have considered the pop star a superhero for decades, so it only made sense to see another superhero take on Spears’ iconic schoolgirl look from her debut “…Baby One More Time” video. In 2019, Captain Marvel (aka Brie Larson) turned into Brie Spears for Halloween, complete with pig tails, Converse sneakers and all the teenage angst that could fit into a three-minute music video.
Olivia Rodrigo’s old soul goes back to the early 2000s, with the singer often taking inspiration both in her music and her look from the pop stars she grew up admiring. In an 2021 interview with GQ, Rodrigo confirmed that she and best friend Iris Apatow got their own "Dump Him" shirts, made famous by Britney, decades ago. Rodrigo once again honoured Brit in her video for “Brutal,” which opens with the singer wearing the same Roberto Cavalli dress that Spears wore to the 2003 American Music Awards.

Rachel Hilbert makes no secret of her love for all things Britney. The Victoria’s Secret model dressed up as Spears circa “Baby One More Time” for Halloween in 2016 and again as “Oops…I Did It Again” Britney in 2020. Again, the only thing better than one Britney is two.

In a post on September 23, 2021, Britney Spears revealed that the all-lace Dolce and Gabbana dress she wore to the 2001 VMAs tops the list as one of her favourite outfits of all time. The sexy and chic LBD was recently revived on social media by Brit and by Kourtney Kardashian, who wore the dress during an Italian getaway with boyfriend Travis Barker in September 2021. As if there was any doubt it was the same black lace number, Kardashian’s stylist Dani Michelle also shared a picture of Kourt in the timeless piece, captioning the image “free Britney.”
