Jessica Simpson’s marriage to Nick Lachey has been back in the headlines recently leading up to the release of Simpson’s new memoir Open Book. The exes are on civil terms following their 2005 divorce, but that doesn’t mean they’re sending one another gifts. Well, someone is sending gifts, but it’s not Nick.Lachey and wife Vanessa appeared on The Today Show on Monday to discuss their new Netflix series Love Is Blind, which puts participants in rooms where they can speak to other singles and try to make a match without ever seeing one another. At one point in the show, host Hoda Kotb steered the interview towards Simpson, whom she had recently interviewed about her memoir.

"I interviewed Jessica Simpson for her book, Open Book, and she talked about how she has her life with her husband and her children, and she was really, really happy for y'all," said Hoda, adding that Simpson revealed Nick and Vanessa had "sent me something beautiful when we had our children."Nick sidestepped the question, saying “I'll be honest, I obviously haven't read the book, so I don't know what she said or what she revealed there. But, certainly happy for her and her life, I know she is happy for us. There's definitely a mutual respect there, obviously it was a long time ago and we've all moved on." As for Vanessa, she was confused over Simpson’s comment about a gift. “I feel bad, I'm sorry, you said somebody sent her...it wasn't us, but thank you, whoever sent it,” said Vanessa. The couple appeared to be taken aback by Hoda’s comments, with Nick jokingly asking his wife, "What did you send?" Vanessa was quick to say that she doesn’t know Simpson’s address, but still appreciated the gesture. "But thank you whoever sent it from us," said Vanessa. The odd exchange has quickly gone viral and can be seen around the four-minute mark.
Simpson’s comments about receiving a gift from the Lacheys is one of the more lighthearted moments to come out of the pop singer’s book. According to early reviews of Open Book, Simpson goes into detail about some of the darker moments in her life, including being a victim of sexual abuse by a family friend, her dependency on drugs and alcohol and the insecurities that stemmed from her relationship with musician John Mayer.Simpson has been busy promoting her new book, which is out today, and stopped by Jimmy Kimmel Live! last week to talk about the memoir. The fashion designer shared one of the book’s stories, which included sharing an kiss with Justin Timberlake as an adult, only to have the singer immediately text Ryan Gosling to inform him that he won a bet the men made when they were 12 over who would kiss Simpson first. So yeah, they didn’t date after that.
