It's often joked (admittedly,
by us) that
Shawn Mendes is Toronto's boyfriend, and he's doing nothing to dissuade that with his latest announcement. The Pickering, Ont., native will perform as part of the upcoming
2020 TIFF Tribute Awards which, for the first time ever, will be televised everywhere
CTV content is available. The ceremony, hosted by
eTalk's own
Chloe Wilde and
Tyrone Edwards, kicks off at 8 p.m. ET/PT on Tuesday, September 15 as part of the Toronto International Film Festival. And that's not all Shawn's signed up for at TIFF: The festival also announced a brand new award in connection with his own charity organization,
The Shawn Mendes Foundation. The "Changemaker Award" will be awarded to a festival film that tackles issues of social change and includes a $10,000 monetary prize. The winner will be chosen by
TIFF’s Next Wave Committee, a group of young student filmmakers from Toronto and the GTA who "recognize cinema’s power to transform the world." The Shawn Mendes Foundation is also committed to making annual contributions to the program.[video_embed id='1892356']MORE TIFF: Cameron Bailey reveals how he picks films for the Toronto International Film Festival [/video_embed]Mendes joins the likes of
