It looks like Cobie Smulders is more into reprising her iconic Robin Sparkles character than fans originally thought. Just weeks after the Stumptown star hesitantly sang a couple of lines from her How I Met Your Mother character’s famous Canadian alter-ego for Jake Johnson on IG Live, she’s put out a whole new song.Smulders shared the new ditty, “Let’s All Stay At Home” on her Instagram page May 7. In the nearly three-minute-video she plays the piano and sings an updated version of her faux Canadian smash “Let’s Go to the Mall,” which was famously performed by her character Robin Scherbatsky on the show. “Welp. Here it is. I hope it takes your mind off some things. It certainly did for me! A huge thank you to Craig Thomas and Carter Bays for the new lyrics,” she wrote in the post, calling out HIMYM’s creators.
“And to Brian Kim, who helped compose this song originally,” Smulders continued. “He wrote this new piano version and then rewrote it when it was too challenging for me. It was a wonderful journey down memory lane.” For fans too, it seems, who have already liked the post nearly half a million times. There are no actual sparkles, headbands, spiral perms or even crazy eyeshadow for fans to fawn over, but on the plus side Smulders is wearing a jean jacket as she belts out the new lyrics in that fake Canadian accent. “I have to go to Zoom school soon, at least until we're all immune” she sings along with lines like, “Dad says I'm too young to date, guidelines say we have to wait.”[video_embed id='1943353']RELATED: This teacher's COVID-19 song made our hosts cry with laughter[/video_embed]On one hand this certainly seems like a great way to invoke joy while alleviating boredom, but Smulders also did it for a good cause. At the end of the video and on her post she encourages fans to consider donating to three Canadian charities: Save The Children Canada, Canada Helps, and Daily Bread Food Bank. Smulders, who grew up in Vancouver, currently lives in Los Angeles, but in rekindling her former Canadian character it only makes sense that she throw to some Canadian charities, right?Robin Sparkles became a running gag on the CBS series following its second season, when Barney (Neil Patrick Harris) uncovered her old music video, “Let’s Go to the Mall.” In season three the gang discovered her lesser known hit, “Sandcastles in the Sand,” much to Robin Scherbatsky’s embarrassment. Callbacks to those videos and the personality kept coming up for the rest of the series, which wrapped for good in March 2014.Considering how ingrained Robin Sparkles now is in the HIMYM fandom, it’s really only a matter of time before someone puts out an unofficial (or maybe even official?!) “Let’s All Stay At Home” video too. Fans can only hope.[video_embed id='1788828']Before you go: Stumptown's Cobie Smulders and Michael Ealy dish on their exciting new show[/video_embed]
