If you have a particularly sharp eagle eye and even a slight obsession with either of the following two, then you won't be totally surprised to discover that singer Phoebe Bridgers and Normal People actor Paul Mescal are a thing. Like, a romantic thing. And a very much red carpet-official romantic thing with longing glances and endless eye contact.
After sparking rumours for a few months, they took their love public at Saturday's LACMA Art+Film Gala – and dressed the part. Bridgers, 27, sported a long tartan Gucci skirt with an off-white lace blouse and her customary silver hair and deep red lip. Mescal, 25, had on a black velvet tux and slightly oversized bowtie. If this is a promise of future big red carpet looks, then yes, please.

The pair first had everyone turning heads just a week ago at a Hollywood Halloween party, when comedian Ziwe posted photos from the night to her Instagram, featuring Bridgers and Mescal in each other's arms.
But this might not be all that new. All the way back in February, Bridgers posted an Instagram story wishing Mescal a happy birthday, writing, “Happy birthday pizza boy @paulmescal.” He reshared it, though his account has since been deleted.
And he of course starred in her "Savior Complex" music video in December 2020. Just a month before, he'd revealed that he had a secret girlfriend, and while he wouldn't name her, he said her support was a "lifesaver."
“To have someone to lean on through such a mad, mad time has been invaluable,” he told British GQ. “Really, I don’t know where I’d be without her.”
That June was when she first mentioned him, in an NME interview, calling him "that cute boy" from Normal People. She mentioned that he'd recently begun following her on Instagram and said, “I got a little pitter-patter in my heart when I saw.” A week later, she posted on her Instagram that she'd finished the show, loved it, sent him her new album and would be interviewing him for a fashion magazine story. So, FYI, sliding into DMs absolutely works.
It also sounds like Mescal at least might be deep in it. He told the "I'm Grand Mam" podcast back in May 2020, presumably before he linked up with Bridgers, “I’m really looking forward to dating. I’m trying not to think of it being weird because, I think, we’ve been in lockdown for f—king months and I’ve had no opportunity to meet somebody new or being remotely intimate with anybody. I’m at the point now where I want to get married and settle down. You know that hysterical thing? If lockdown ever happens again, I’m making sure I’m married.”
It may be a little early, but mazel to these two!
