If laughter really is the best medicine, Pete Davidson is definitely using it to help him get through some dark times. During a recent late-night stand-up show the SNL star revealed that he did in fact go to rehab, as he hinted at during a Weekend Update segment late last year. But his revealing jokes didn’t stop there: Davidson also used his time onstage to joke about some of his experiences at the facility, as well as bring up one of his more famous exes.It all took place during a midnight set at Carolines on Broadway in New York on February 16, where a sold-out crowd had to lock their cells phones away in a bag to enter, according to Page Six. There he told attendees that he’d spent time at the Sierra Tucson facility in Arizona where he went by the pseudonym “Howard” and hung out at a place called the “Butt Hut,” aka the area where patients smoke. In a bit of a dark turn Davidson also opened up about having suicidal thoughts, but he joked that he had made a pledge not to off himself until the Knicks won the championship. So he had, “At least five more years to go.”The comic was trying out bits that will be included in his upcoming Netflix special, so naturally he included some insider info about working at SNL, including a story where Louis CK supposedly tried to get him fired during his first season, when he was 20 years old. CK had caught Davidson smoking weed and told him he’d, “Smoke his career away.” Davidson revealed he ended up in Lorne Michaels’ office over the incident, but he joked that Lorne’s eyes were saying, “People used to do coke here.” Obviously Davidson wasn’t fired, and onstage he took a punch at CK and said he remembers the “glorious day” that the man’s sexual-misconduct scandal broke. And then there were the jokes about one of Davidson’s famous exes, Kate Beckinsale. Unlike some trolls, he vividly remembers that they made out at a hockey game and the internet went wild. So he also brought that up in his set, joking that the New York Rangers owner, James Dolan, contacted him and asked him to make out with someone at the game since it was so widely covered.According to the publication, Davidson didn’t bring up his more recent ex, Kaia Gerber, nor did he revel in what happened behind-the-scenes during that glorious SNL episode where RuPaul transformed him into a glam drag queen. So maybe some topics were off-limits after all.In January Davidson reportedly decided to prioritize his mental health and cooled things off with Gerber after a fast and furious two months of dating and PDA. At the time a source told E! News that, “It became very clear that he had to go and do this and couldn’t wait any longer. This is his second time seeking treatment, his first being in 2016.”This is the first time Davidson has opened up about his recent mental health struggles, although he has spoken candidly about it in the past. The 26-year-old was diagnosed with Borderline Personality Disorder (BPD) in 2016, and at the time he opened up to his fans about the struggles on his Instagram stories.“Just because someone has a mental illness does not mean they can’t be happy and in a relationship. It also doesn’t mean that person makes the relationship toxic,” he wrote. “I just think it’s fucked up to stigmatize people as crazy and say that they are unable to do stuff that anyone can do. It’s not their fault and it’s the wrong way for people to look at things.”Hopefully Davidson is opening the door for more of those honest conversations through his stand-up, which fans will definitely be seeing more of soon thanks to that Netflix special. In the meantime, Page Six also reported that the crowd during this bit of stand-up was nothing but supportive, which will hopefully make the comedian feel like he has a safe and welcoming space to open up again in the future, if and when he feels the need.[video_embed id='1812329']RELATED: Fans can't get over how much Pete Davidson and Margaret Qualley look alike[/video_embed]
