As COVID-19 continues to devastate much of the world with the rising number of hospitalizations and deaths, finding ways to appeal to those who don’t wear masks or practice safe physical distancing continues to be a struggle for scientists and politicians. With many young people heading back to school and moving into dorms for the upcoming academic school year, case of COVID-19 among millennials are rising drastically. Thankfully, certified young person Paul Rudd is here to appeal to his peers and ask them to wear mask. Fam, let’s real talk. The ageless actor (Wikipedia says he’s 51, but his lack of crow's feet tells a different story) put on a hoodie and grabbed his board to lay down some truths for his peeps. Partnering with New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo, who is, like, a real adult, Rudd has managed to bring levity to a devastating pandemic while still clearly getting across the point that masks save lives. Wear your mask. It’s science. Ugh!"I'm not going to preach at you, like some celebrity," sayd Rudd. "This is a convo where I talk, and you shut up and wear your mask." The actor manages it to get in an unprecedented number of slang terms that the youths love, including thicc, fam and no cap. Rudd even fit in an obligatory Billie Eilish reference, receiving a phone call from the Grammy winner who agrees that masks are "totally beast." “I want to stan you,” said Rudd. “You’re so my bae!”[video_embed id='2035842']WATCH: Paul Rudd makes 'masking up' funny and informative[/video_embed]Referencing the trend of challenges on social media, Rudd had a few suggestions of his own. “How about a stop the pandemic challenge? How about a save grandma challenge? Is that fun enough for you?”Rudd finally breaks near the end of the ad, begging people to wear their masks. “Hundreds of thousands of people are dying and it’s preventable,” says Rudd. “Just wear a mask. I shouldn’t have to make it fun!”The hilarious and very, very true video (it’s preventable!) ended with Rudd reuniting with
Hot Ones star Sean Evans. The pair reenacted the
viral meme from their 2019 interview on First We Feast. If Rudd and Evans can wear masks while eating hot wings, the rest of the population can do it while grocery shopping. Who would have thought this is where we would be in 2020? Not me.
Rudd’s fellow millennials, etc. have see the ad and gone to the Twitterverse to tweet and hashtag their lurve for the actor.
Paul Rudd is the
latest celebrity to ask people to wear a mask. Tom Hanks, Jennifer Aniston, Tracee Ellis Ross, Kerry Washington, Mindy Kaling, Reese Witherspoon, Lady Gaga, Lizzo, Amy Schumer and many more stars have shown off their masks on social media in an effort to normalize the necessary safety practice.[video_embed id='2034554']BEFORE YOU GO: Hilarious dog can't stop ruining group pictures [/video_embed]
