Niecy Nash is delivering the good news that we desperately need in 2020. On Monday, Nash shared a picture of herself in a wedding gown with singer Jessica Betts, revealing that the pair had recently gotten married. The wedding announcement marks the first time Nash and Betts have publicly revealed their status as a couple. The exciting news also marks Nash’s official public coming out as queer.“Mrs. Carol Denise Betts,” wrote Nash on Twitter and Instagram, adding the hashtag #LoveWins and including a rainbow emoji. Betts shared the same image on her Instagram page, captioning the picture “I got a whole wife” and adding the hashtag #BettsOfBothWorlds. The Claws star, whose legal name is Carole Denise, appears to be taking her wife’s last name. The picture of the newlyweds shows the pair only moments after saying ‘I do.’ Nash is in a stunning lace mermaid gown while Betts looks chic in white pants and a matching vest. The outdoor ceremony is decorated with elaborate floral arrangements. It’s unclear exactly when the couple were married since the wedding guests are not in masks, which is how time is understood in 2020.

The newlyweds received thousands of well-wishes on their wedding posts, including comments from Nash’s Selma and When They See Us director Ava DuVernay, singer Jordin Sparks, and actors Samira Wiley, Yvonne Orji, Lena Waithe, Alexandra Shipp, Olivia Munn, Uzo Aduba, Tika Sumpter, Halle Berry, Jamie Lee Curtis, Chrissy Metz and writer Janet Mock. Mindy Kaling, who cast Nash as a lesbian on her series The Mindy Project and shared a kiss with the actor, also commented on Nash’s picture, posting two heart emojis and writing “You look GORGEOUS! Congratulations!! So much love to you both!”Actor and playwright Colman Domingo, who co-starred with Nash in 2014’s Selma, officiated the ceremony. Sharing the newlywed’s photo on his own Instagram, Domingo celebrated the new union and asked his followers to ‘love on’ the couple. “Love is an Act of Revolution. And we need more revolutions. Especially in this moment of our lives,” wrote Domingo. “Have a Revolution.”After sharing their wedding photo, Nash uploaded Bett’s song “Catch Me” to her Instagram stories, as well as a more casual picture of the couple that looks like it may have been taken during the rehearsal for the wedding. Nash added the hashtag #PlotTwist and a rainbow emoji to the sweet snap. It’s unclear how long the couple have been together, but in 2016, Betts shared a video of Nash praising the singer. Nash and Betts both appeared on Claws in 2018 and posted about their time together on set. Nash, who leads the queer-inclusive series about a Miami nail salon that launders money, posted a video of the pair waiting to shoot their scenes. Calling Betts her homegirl, the singer played the role of Nadege, a bartender, on Claws.Betts also uploaded footage of the couple’s time together on set, possibly foreshadowing their relationship. In a video posted in August 2018, Betts is wearing dress pants and a vest while she serenades Nash, who is wearing a wedding gown for her character Desna Simms’ nuptials that took place during the show’s Season 2 finale.
Nash was previously married to Don Nash and Jay Tucker. The Emmy winner and Tucker finalized their divorce earlier this year in March. It appears that this is the first marriage for Betts, who has previously toured with singer K. Michelle and won the only season of the reality series The Road to Stardom With Missy Elliott. If Nash and Betts did get married during quarantine, they are part of a small group of celebs who decided to not put off their ‘I do’s’ in the midst of the pandemic. Princess Beatrice and fiancé Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi delayed their May wedding until July and then scaled down the festivities, as much as wearing a tiara owned by the Queen of England is scaling down. In June, actor Raven-Symoné announced her surprise backyard wedding to girlfriend Miranda Pearman-Maday. Sean Penn wed his girlfriend of four years, Leila George, in the couples’ home in August, with Penn’s children attending the ceremony via Zoom.[video_embed id='2022952']Before you go: Lightning strikes during groom's vows about 2020[/video_embed]
