The holidays are winding down but Michelle Williams has two more reasons to celebrate as 2019 comes to an end: she's engaged—
and expecting a baby.According to
People, Williams and Thomas Kail, the Tony-winning director of the smash stage hit
Hamilton, are ready to make things official. They likely met on
Fosse/Verdon (Kail directed and produced; Williams starred, winning an Emmy in September and is also up for a
Golden Globe this weekend), though a source told
People that Michelle's 14-year-old daughter, Matilda (whose father is the late Heath Ledger), played matchmaker between her mom and the Emmy-winning director.A rep for Williams hasn't commented, and likely won't considering the
Manchester By the Sea actress keeps her life inherently private. The only confirmation we
might get that the actress is expecting her second child is if she's snapped walking down the street and photographers capture a glimpse of her growing belly. Or Michelle and Thomas could be like Anne Hathaway and husband Adam Shulman and just all of a sudden be toting
an infant carrier or pushing a stroller. Perhaps they can all start a club and Williams can get her former
Dawson's Creek co-star Joshua Jackson to join them as he too, isn't big on announcing big life news to the world (
marriage, impending baby carriage).Michelle's engagement comes eight months after her marriage to singer-songwriter Phil Elverum
ended. They secretly wed in in the Adirondacks in July 2018 in front of a small group of friends and their two daughters, but called it quits this past April.Williams, who rarely speaks publicly about her romantic life, did have a couple things to say about Elverum last September and told
Vanity Fair, "the way he loves me is the way I want to live my life on the whole" and "be free inside of the moment." She added: "I parent to let Matilda feel free to be herself, and I am finally loved by someone who makes me feel free."In that same
VF profile, Williams opened about the decade after Ledger's death and admitted that she "never gave up on love." She also revealed what she often tells Matilda about Heath: "I always say to Matilda, 'Your dad loved me before anybody thought I was talented, or pretty, or had nice clothes.' Don't settle. Don't settle for something that feels like a prison, or is hard, or hurts you. If it doesn't feel like love, it's not love."And it seems she's found it once again.
