Following the devastating news on August 28 that actor Chadwick Boseman had died at age 43 after a four-year battle with colon cancer, tributes continue to pour in for the celebrated entertainer. The latest person to pay homage to the American actor is his Black Panther co-star Letitia Wright, who played Shuri, the younger sister of Boseman’s King T’Challa, in the Marvel movie.Wright shared a moving poem on her Instagram page on Tuesday, delivering the emotional and beautiful lines while images of nature and pictures of the pair together played in the background. Moody organ music sets the tone for the deeply personal piece, which Wright wrote “for my brother.”“It is written, there is nothing new under the sun, But the sun stood still that morning, refusing to shine,” says Wright in the opening of the video. “Dark clouds surrounding, confusion setting in. Tears flowing, rivers so deep.”Calling Boseman ‘her brother,’ Wright describes the late actor as someone who brought a sense of calmness to every room he entered, moving with grace and ease. “Every time I saw you, the world would be a better place.”[video_embed id='2025738']RELATED: Looking back on our favourite moments with Chadwick Boseman[/video_embed]Remembering the first time they met in Los Angeles, Wright says that she felt as though God had place the pair together. “God told me that you are my brother and that I am to love you as such, And I always did, and I always will.”Wright says that her final text messages to Boseman went unanswered and now she understands that her friend was dealing with a life cut tragically short. Reminiscing about their time on the set of Black Panther and working with director Ryan Coogler, Wright continues, saying “I thought we had more time, and many more years to come, for more laughter and for more moments of me picking on you on set. Leaning my head on your shoulders in the throne room as Ryan gave us notes. I thought this would be forever. This hurts.”The BAFTA winner ends the beautiful piece by looking toward a future that has been shaped by Boseman’s work, both on and off screen. “And all that's left now is for us to allow all the seeds that you have planted on the earth to grow, to blossom, to become even more beautiful,” she writes. “You're forever in my heart.”
Wright joins the long list of Boseman’s co-stars who have released statements about the actor following the news of his death. The pair’s Black Panther co-stars, including Danai Gurira, Angela Bassett, and Michael B. Jordan, have shared their memories of Boseman and expressed their pain over the devastating loss.“Everything you’ve given the world … the legends and heroes that you’ve shown us we are … will live on forever. But the thing that hurts the most is that I now understand how much of a legend and hero YOU are,” wrote Jordan in an Instagram post shared on August 30. “Through it all, you never lost sight of what you loved most. You cared about your family, your friends, your craft, your spirit. You cared about the kids, the community, our culture and humanity. You cared about me. You are my big brother, but I never fully got a chance to tell you, or to truly give you your flowers while you were here.”Black Panther director Ryan Coogler also released a statement, saying that he has been working on a follow-up to the hugely successful Marvel film and is in shock that Boseman is not alive to reprise his iconic role. “I spent the last year preparing, imagining and writing words for him to say, that we weren’t destined to see. It leaves me broken knowing that I won’t be able to watch another close-up of him in the monitor again or walk up to him and ask for another take,” wrote Coogler.Black Panther 2, which would have marked Boseman’s fifth time as the beloved superhero, was scheduled to open May 6, 2022. In the wake of Boseman’s death, the future of the film is currently unknown.[video_embed id='2025383']Before you go: Marvel pays tribute to Chadwick Boseman with emotional video[/video_embed]
