Our girl Kim K is many things: a reality star and social media influencer, a mega successful businesswoman, a mother of four and justice reform advocate/lawyer-to-be. She’s also married to Kanye West, so you know things are never dull in that household. This week, the perpetually glam multihyphenate is turning 40 and we’re celebrating with a look back on some of her best quotes and most delightfully perplexing tweets. If that's not enough, Keeping Up with the Kardashians (Thursdays at 8pET on E!) is dedicating their Thursday, Oct. 22 episode to "Kim's 40th Birthday Special" in honour of the fierce reality star--get ready to re-watch all your favourite Kim moments along with never-before-seen ones and messages from the whole KarJenner clan. Happy birthday, Kim—you’re doing amazing, sweetie!
That time Kim tweeted in surfer bro and the Internet was baffled:
There is so much going on this tweet, we don’t know where to begin. First of all, Kim does not strike us as the surfing type (the woman does not even swim in her own pool). Secondly, the Ninja Turtle-inspired surfer bro talk is both hilarious and totally confusing. For years, this statement sat unexplained on Twitter while we all speculated on what drove Kim to form that particular combination of words. It was a riddle for the ages, really, until Kim finally cleared things up in 2017.
This iconic jab at people with tattoos:
On a 2009 appearance on The Wendy Williams Show, Khloe happily explained her tattoos on camera as Kim proudly chimed in, “And I’m tat-free.” When Williams commented that she’d thought this was the case, Kim fired off this gem: "Honey, would you put a bumper sticker on a Bentley?"As Khloe rolled her eyes and the audience cheered, Kim quickly added, “But you would on a Ferrari! Khloe is a Ferrari.” Nice save, Kimberly—with those quick thinking skills, you could make a good lawyer one day.
This sweet display of friendship:
Back in April 2010, Kim tweeted, "Nicole Richie reminds me of my Jeep," with zero context or explanation. Why? Well, plenty of suggestive interpretations have been made on the Internet but at the end of the day, we don’t know. We think it’s a compliment, though?
That time she shared a special skill:
In a 2016 interview with Harper’s Bazaar, Kim shared this fun fact: "I can smell when someone has a cavity. It's a very specific smell—not a bad-breath smell—but something that is really strong." If that wasn’t enough, the same interview included Kanye emphatically saying, “Here's something that's contrary to popular belief: I actually don't like thinking. I think people think I like to think a lot. And I don't. I do not like to think at all.” Never change, West fam.
That time she talked about renting exotic animals:
In one of her early late night talk show appearances, Kim casually turned to David Letterman and said, "I rented a monkey for my mom for a week because she was missing babies.” You know, as one does. The KKW Beauty founder went on to say they’d also rented giraffes and llamas.
This totally on brand overshare:
When supermodel Cara Delavigne interviewed Kim for Love Magazine in 2015, Kardashian admitted that she wasn’t super familiar with undergarments. "I only just started wearing underwear a month ago, and I never wore underwear until then,” she admitted. On shapewear, she added, “I always pee all over my Spanx, it’s a disaster. They aren’t crotchless enough!” And thus, SKIMS was born.[video_embed id='2036367']RELATED: Kim Kardashian’s new maternity shapewear line receives mixed reactions [/video_embed]
This brilliant confession:
Yes, a cucumber is a pickle (or, more accurately, a pickle is a cucumber). Kim knows this now. It’s called lifelong learning and we are here for it.
The time she explained her... many talents... to North:
While the general public may ponder the question "Why exactly
is Kim Kardashian so famous?" Kim doesn't pay much mind to the technicalities of her fame, especially when it comes to explaining them to her children. When North asked in 2019 why so many people took their photos every day, Kim answered, "To get very technical—my name is Kim Kardashian. And Daddy is Kanye West. Daddy is a singer, performer,
artiste. Mommy has so many talents I can’t even begin to name them." Wow, Kim, true.
And finally, this inspirational moment:
When Kim tweeted, “Aspire to inspire before u expire,” we were, well, inspired. It turns out that the original message is a quote from a book by Eugene Bell Junior, but hey. She got the message out there. Happy 40th, doll!
