Kaley Cuoco recalls uncomfortable sex scenes with Johnny Galecki following their breakup

Dating at work is always risky, especially when part of your job includes kissing your co-workers. For The Big Bang Theory (stream now on CTV.ca and the CTV app) stars Kaley Cuoco and Johnny Galecki, the pair managed to date in secret for two years while starring on the hugely popular sitcom. More importantly, they spent another 10 years as co-stars and friends after their breakup. Still, working with your former partner can be uncomfortable, especially when sex scenes are filmed only weeks after splitting. Running into your ex at the water cooler suddenly doesn’t seem so bad.On the November 9 episode of Armchair Expert with Dax Shepard and Monica Padman, Cuoco opened up about her relationship with Galecki and their time together on TBBT.“We dated really early on for almost two years. When we did the pilot, I was just crushing so hard on Galecki but he had a girlfriend,” said Cuoco. The pair began spending time together while filming the first few episodes of the show and eventually got drinks together one night. “I had such a crush on him, and I didn’t think he felt that way about me,” said Cuoco. “We got together and just fell mad for each other for two years, but then we broke up. Luckily Johnny and I came out of it so brilliantly and we’re closer today than we ever were.”

Cuoco said right around the time she and Galecki decided to end their romantic relationship, their characters Penny and Leonard suddenly saw an increase in love scenes. “When we broke up obviously it was a little sensitive for a minute, but I remember those weeks that Chuck [Lorre] had written these episodes where all of a sudden our characters were like sleeping together every other second,” she said. “Johnny and I talk about it and I think [Chuck] did that on purpose just to f— with us,” laughed Cuoco. "If I was with him, I would ask him because that came out of nowhere. All of a sudden these characters were all up on each other out of nowhere, but Johnny and I came out of it better than ever.”Cuoco admitted that dating someone she worked with left few topics for the pair to discuss at the end of their day. “We would talk about what happened on set and we would make fun of ourselves because there was nothing to tell each other anymore. We would get there together, we would leave together and it was just kind of too much. It’s different on a sitcom. On a one-hour you don’t see each other every day, that’s different,” said Cuoco, who joked that the couple’s familiarity led to their split. “I got nothing else to tell you, I think this is done.”

Cuoco has nothing be praise for her ex, whom she told Shepard and Padman was her "partner" in her TBBT journey. The pair’s friendship meant they were able to celebrate their monumental pay days together, which took place after the main cast members decided to negotiate their raises as a team. “We would have these late night conversations and we would be bawling because I knew and he knew in that moment that this would never happen again,” said Cuoco.The actor, who stars in the upcoming gritty drama The Flight Attendant, spent the bulk of her appearance on the podcast praising her husband Karl Cook. A professional equestrian, Cuoco said that much of the success of their relationship is due to Cook having a career and life outside of their marriage. "I was like, I have to be with someone who really has, whether they're famous or not, their own life.
