Justin Bieber has seen the headlines about his appearance and public breakdowns and is setting the record straight. The singer shared an article by TMZ on Wednesday and confirmed the paparazzi sites’ report that Bieber has been suffering from Lyme disease, which has affected his physical, emotional and mental well-being.
According to the article, Bieber spent much of 2019 suffering from an undiagnosed case of Lyme disease. The symptoms left him weak and depressed and caused the singer to continue pushing back the release of new music. “While a lot of people kept saying Justin Bieber looks like shit, on meth etc. they failed to realize I've been recently diagnosed with Lyme disease,” writes Bieber in the comments of his Instagram post. “Not only that but had a serious case of chronic mono which affected my, skin, brain function, energy, and overall health.”
Bieber says that his recent health scare, which was a major factor in his ongoing battle with depression, will be discussed in detail in his upcoming YouTube documentary, Justin Bieber: Seasons. “It's been a rough couple years but getting the right treatment that will help treat this so far incurable disease and I will be back and better than ever,” adds Justin.
According to TMZ, it’s still unclear how Bieber contacted Lyme disease, which is spread through tick bites. The site also reveals that pictures of Bieber crying in public alongside wife Hailey Bieber in 2019 were the result of the disease and caused the singer to feel depressed and scared when doctors were unable to provide a diagnosis for his symptoms.

The Grammy winner went public with her diagnosis in 2015 and revealed to People Magazine that she was bedridden for five months and almost died after doctors were unable to determine the cause of her symptoms. Lavigne’s health scare inspired much of her 2019 album Head Above Water and the singer continues to help raise money for research into treatments for Lyme disease as well as awareness about the causes and symptoms of the disease through her Avril Lavigne Foundation.
According to TMZ, Bieber has also received support from the Hadid family.
