It appears the pandemic has claimed yet another celebrity couple. On October 12,
People confirmed that Jonah Hill and Gianna Santos have called off their engagement. The pair were first reported to be engaged in September 2019 by
Page Six.The former couple were first linked in August 2018 when they were spotted walking together in New York City. The 36-year-old actor and 31-year-old content manager at beauty startup Violet Gray have not commented publicly on their split, but their silence is in line with the rest of their relationship. The pair have been private about their courtship throughout their two years together and only appeared together a handful of times at public events. It’s unclear what led to the couple’s decision to end their engagement, but as noted by
People, Hill and his sister, actor Beanie Feldstein, both continue to follow Santos on Instagram. So, hopefully things ended on an amicable note.Hill and Santos are the latest celebrity couple to announce the end of their relationship since the pandemic began in March. Demi Lovato and Max Ehrich began
dating, got engaged and broke up between March and September.
Kelly Clarkson and Brandon Blackstock; Kristin Cavallari and Jay Cutler; Megan Fox and Brian Austin Green; and
Armie Hammer Elizabeth and Chambers have all announced their divorces since quarantine began.
Lili Rinehart and Cole Sprouse also confirmed they ended their relationship earlier this year.As for Hill, the typically private actor has been active on social media since the pandemic began. After making his directorial debut in 2018 with
Mid90s, Hill has been encouraging his followers to
get creative while in quarantine. The
Wolf of Wall Street and
Superbad actor has also been championing social justice causes he is passionate about, including supporting
mental health resources during the pandemic and calling for
justice in the death of George Floyd.Hill has also been promoting local restaurants, which have been hit especially hard during the pandemic. Sharing his top LA restaurant pick FOOD, Hill encouraged his followers to continue supporting their favourite independent eateries. “A lot of independent restaurants are in danger of going out of business permanently,” wrote Hill in his September 9
post. “Support your neighborhood small businesses. FOOD is mine, but each neighborhood has one.”On October 9, Hill shared a video of his mother Sharon Feldstein encouraging people to vote. Feldstein filmed her video along with several other famous mothers, including Alicia Keys’ mother Terria Joseph, Zendaya’s mother Claire Coleman, Adam Levine’s mother Patsy Noah and Chris Paul’s mom Robin Paul. "Only vote if you care about breathing clean air, living in a safe place, and having a job that pays enough for you to have a happy life," says Feldstein in the new PSA.
The video was filmed in support of
Your Mom Cares, a non-profit that was co-founded by Feldstein, Noah and Joseph. The charity helps promote brands and organizations that are focused on improving children’s mental health and funding programs that provide resources to families in need.
