Jesse Tyler Ferguson and husband Justin Mikita welcome their first child

Jesse Tyler Ferguson and husband Justin Mikita have just become the proud parents of a new baby boy. The couple announced the birth of their son through Ferguson’s rep on Thursday, confirming that baby and dads are all doing well and revealing the tot’s beautiful name. "Jesse and Justin welcomed their little bundle of joy Beckett Mercer Ferguson-Mikita on July 7, 2020," the rep told People. "The new parents are overjoyed and excited for this new journey as a family of three."The couple announced that they were expecting back in January this year. Ferguson was a guest on The Late Late Show With James Corden and was promoting the final season of Modern Family. Sharing the couch with actor Charlie Hunnam, the three men were discussing Hunnam’s upcoming 40^th birthday, which presented a segue for Ferguson’s exciting news. Speaking about what turning 40 meant to him, the 44-year-old actor said “It’s when you finally become an adult, I feel. Like, ‘I need to start getting serious about things.’” Continuing, Ferguson said, “Actually, this is something I haven’t even mentioned to anyone, if we could just keep it between the three of us and you all, but I’m actually expecting a baby in July with my husband.”Ferguson and Mikita, a lawyer, began dating in 2011 and were married two years later. The couple have been preparing for the arrival of Beckett, which in their home has meant preparing their other child for the arrival of Beckett.

Like many new parents this year, Ferguson and Mikita have welcomed their baby in the midst on a global pandemic. The current climate means that Ferguson and Mikita likely won’t have friends and family visiting to meet their son anytime soon. Doctors visits will have an added layer of stress and anxiety and taking little Beckett out for fresh air will likely be limited. Ferguson’s first major post-Modern Family acting gig, starring opposite Grey’s Anatomy’s Jesse Williams and Suits alum Patrick J. Adams in Take Me Out, has been delayed, as all of Broadway remains closed until at least 2021. If there is a silver lining, it’s that Ferguson will have more time at home with Beckett during his first few months. In 2020, it’s more important than ever to find the silver lining.The couple have already had a busy 2020 prior to welcoming their son this month. In addition to Ferguson saying goodbye after 11 seasons to Modern Family and his role as Mitchell Pritchett, the couple have also been working behind the scenes to help produce and promote the film Welcome To Chechnya. The documentary takes an unflinching look at the torture and murder of members of the LGBTQ+ community in Russia’s republic, and the brave allies who risk their lives to help smuggle people to safety. Directed by Oscar nominee David France, the stunning HBO documentary premiered on Crave in June and currently sits at a 100 percent rating on Rotten Tomatoes.

Tomorrow, Welcome To Chechnya premieres on @hbo. It is an incredibly important and timely documentary about these real life heroes, pictured here. There is an anti-gay purge happening right now by the Russian government. Putin, who may not be the persecutor, is turning a blind eye to the horrors occurring under the leadership of Kadyrov in Chechnya. It is unspeakable the horrors that are being committed against these queer Russians, and escaping isn’t even enough. They are being hunted around the globe. What’s worse is our current administration has no intention of calling out the Russian government or helping to place pressure on them to stop these human rights violations. This story is a hard one to tell and a hard one to watch. It isn’t a fairy tale. However, I can’t imagine how hard it is to live it. I am awestruck by the heroes pictured here and their resolve to change the world: Olga, David & Maxim. We love you. We have to tell these stories and stand up for queer people around the globe.
