Jennifer Lopez’s lack of recognition for her role in 2019’s Hustlers made her one of the biggest Oscar snubs this year and it wasn’t just the actor’s fans who noticed. During a recent interview with Oprah Winfrey, Lopez admitted that the lack of a nomination stung after receiving so much praise for her role as a stripper turned con artist.Lopez was Winfrey’s guest during Saturday’s stop on the 2020 Vision Tour in Los Angeles and the topic of the 92nd annual Academy Awards was broached by the former daytime talk show host. Although Lopez earned a Golden Globe nomination for Hustlers, her shut out at the Oscars was painful.“I was sad,” said Lopez according to OWN Magazine. “I was a little sad. Because there was a lot of build up to it. I got so many good notices, like more than ever in my career, and there was a lot of like, 'She’s gonna get nominated for an Oscar.' I’m reading all the articles and I’m like oh my God, could this happen? And then it didn’t, and I was like, ouch! It was a little bit of a letdown.”[video_embed id='1891845']RELATED: JLo and Shakira put on a halftime show to remember[/video_embed]Lopez said that she not only felt upset for herself, but also for those around her who have supported the actor throughout her career. “Most of my team has been with me for years — 20, 25 years — and I think they had a lot of hopes on that and they wanted it, too. So I felt like I let everyone down a little bit,” said Lopez, who eventually gave herself the pep talk she needed to get out of the negative headspace. “You realize you want people’s validation. You want people to say you did a good job, and I realized, ‘No, you don’t need that. You do this because you love it. I don’t need this award to tell me I’m enough.”Lopez said that she’s trying not to dwell on the Oscars and instead is shifting her focus to the recent highlights in her personal and professional life, including her performance at last month’s Super Bowl halftime show. “It was such a beautiful night, it was so well received…to listen to like the small faction of people who thought it was too sexy or were trying to say something negative, it would have been a sin to concentrate on that,” said Lopez.
The singer, actor and dancer also talked about turning 50 and getting engaged to fiancé Alex Rodriguez, saying that their relationship is unlike any she’s experienced in the past because of the former baseball player’s consistency. “What he says, he does. Every time. And that is big," said Lopez. "And he also wants to build together, which I’ve never had…I’ve never had somebody who wants to see me shine and grow. I think him being in my life is a big part of what happened this year."As for when the couple are planning on walking down the aisle, Lopez said she’s decided to break from her tradition of quickie marriages and take things slow this time around. “When we first got engaged, I was like Are we going to get married in a couple months?! Your old thinking comes right back, all that hopeless romantic that made me get married three times came rushing back..." Lopez joked. "And then I was like, 'Wait—if we’re going to be together for the rest of our lives. What is the rush?'”Saturday’s tour stop included Winfrey’s sit down with Lopez as well as her scary tumble. Winfrey was in the middle of talking about finding balance in life when she tripped on her heel and took a hard fall. Thankfully, the TV host appeared to recover quickly and updated fans on Sunday, showing off an oversized ice pack and promising to practice some self-care.
