Not even Aquaman is immune to waterworks. Jason Momoa is the latest buff celebrity to grace the cover of
Men’s Health, and in the interview he opened up about fatherhood, his relationship with his wife’s ex (Lenny Kravitz), and why he cried when his daughter turned 13 years old.In between chatting up some of his latest projects, like
Dune and
Aquaman 2, the 41-year-old opened up about his family life. He revealed that he, his wife Lisa Bonet, and their two children (daughter Lola Iolani Momoa and son Nakoa-Wolf Manakauapo Namakaeha Momoa), have never been closer than they have been during quarantine.[video_embed id='2074953']RELATED: Jason Momoa talks masculinity and the environment in new interview[/video_embed]“Even though I work in Hollywood, I’m 100 percent roots Midwest. I work hard and don’t take anything for granted. I’m a big family guy,”
he said, noting that although he looks tough, it’s Bonet who is the real Khal Drogo of their family. “My wife is very sophisticated and smart and [our kids and I are] kind of like animals that need to be trained a little better,” he added. “I’m constantly a work in progress, and I’ve just been trying to get better as a father and a husband.”The actor, who is stepfather to Zoe Kravitz, revealed that he also takes inspiration from Bonet’s ex, Zoe’s father Lenny Kravitz. In fact, the pair have become fast friends and even refer to each other as family. He added that when Zoe started bringing boys around, he was the real wreck of the two. “Lenny is way cooler than I am, I was baffled,” he said, adding that he cried over Lola turning 13 this past summer because he knows that she will inevitably start dating too and he’ll freak out all over again.
“I’m not going to do well with it,” he revealed. “I’ll just hate it if she brings home some dipshit bad boy. I’m like, ‘If you find a man who treats you better than I [treat Bonet], good luck!’” The actor then added that if Lola turns out like Zoe, who is currently married to actor Karl Glusman, he’ll be thrilled. “I love her husband,” he said. “I love her dad. I hope and pray my daughter is that talented and loving and open and close to her family.”For now, it sounds like he—like so many other parents out there—is just doing his best. In the interview Momoa also revealed that his family doesn’t own a television and his kids don’t have phones, so this year his clan has been big on physical activity (climbing on the walls he had built, swimming, skateboarding), listening to records, hiking with their dogs, and reading. According to him, the kids are particularly fond of that last activity. “I can’t believe it—they love reading,” he joked. “I’m like, ‘Stop reading! Get outside.’ It’s insane.”Momoa also added that while he often has to be away from the kids while he’s shooting on location, 2020 has allowed him to spend more time with them on the road than ever—especially since they’re now doing home schooling. “They can do school on the road and come be with Papa. Woo-hoo!” he said. “And I can take them everywhere, forever.”Or, maybe until they turn 18? Hands up if you think Momoa’s waterworks will be extra real by then.[video_embed id='-1']Before you go: Ambidextrous art: Drawing Jason Momoa with two hands at the same time[/video_embed]
