Hilary Duff is speaking directly to our Lizzie McGuire-obsessed hearts. The 2000s pop princess has been trending on TikTok recently after fans dug up live televised performances of her beloved 2007 hit “With Love.” In the throwback video, Duff had her dance moves on full(ish) display on the Today Show and The Tonight Show with Jay Leno and they were just screaming for replication.
For the past month, fans have been recreating those moves, sparking a viral TikTok dance trend featuring the 2000s soft-choreography with a side-by-side of Hilary’s original (kinda unenthusiastic) performance on The Tonight Show. There has been no escaping the “With Love” trend on every social media platform.
The former Lizzie McGuire star has finally taken the plunge herself by posting her own 2021 version of the trend. Yes, we believe she's poking fun at herself.
“So I can stop receiving texts about this…✌🏻 also….. I tik toked….and it was a 12% kinda day,” the 34-year-old captioned her video, shared to both TikTok and Instagram.
We must admit, 2021 Hilary put a lot more energy into the choreography, serving exactly what fans were missing in the original performance.
Fans and celebrities alike shared their love for the remake in the comments section. High School Musical alum Ashley Tisdale showcased her excitement by commenting “YESSSSSSS” and Duff’s husband Matthew Koma confirmed his support by commenting “Crushed."
And if you wanted to feast your eyes on the full original performance, yes OF COURSE it still lives online. Please enjoy Hilary Duff's 2007 "With Love" performance on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno in full.
Fans have been hungry for Hilary Duff to make her TV return since Younger ended and it's been a bit of a rollercoaster. Duff played with our emotions a little last year with the announcement and subsequent cancellation of the highly anticipated Lizzie McGuire reboot. The Disney+ show fell apart due to creative differences between the cast and writers on how to translate Lizzie for an adult audience.
Luckily for fans, earlier this year, a different Duff-led reboot got the greenlight. It was announced that the actress would be starring in Hulu’s How I Met Your Mother sequel series, How I Met Your Father, set to be released sometime next year. She will be starring as the series' lead as a character named Sophie.
While fans are having to wait until next year to satisfy their Hilary Duff craving, at least they have the performer poking fun at herself in the meantime on social media.
