It makes perfect sense that the worlds of The Nanny and Crazy Ex-Girlfriend would collide as both series had their share of glorious fantasy sequences, not to mention all the musical numbers on the former CW series. "The Nanny was a fundamental part of my childhood because it was the first time I saw an openly Jewish female protagonist on television," said Bloom. "The story of Fran Fine, however, is a universal one that has touched the hearts of people of every race, religion and orientation. I am so proud to be using the characters established by The Nanny to tell a new story about one woman's journey to becoming proud of who she is and what makes her different."Drescher revealed in 2018 that she'd love it if Cardi B would be part of a reboot of the sitcom, maybe playing Fran's daughter. Hmm, their voices do have a similar cadence about them so it wouldn't be impossible to believe. In fact, it was when the rapper gave off some serious Fran Drescher vibes in 2018 that got the actress thinking seriously about the possibility of a Nanny 2.0.
While that never came to be, the idea of bringing it back in some form still persisted. And last April, Drescher first divulged that she, Jacobson and Bloom were working on "something Nanny related." And here we are today. The musical was announced on Wednesday by producers Brian Zeilinger and Scott Zeilinger who have a little experience under their belt, what with being co-producers on Dear Evan Hansen, Cat on a Hot Tin Roof and Mean Girls on Broadway as well as Harry Potter and the Cursed Child, Magic Mike Live and Dreamgirls in London's West End.The Nanny ran for six seasons, from 1993 to 1998, and earned 12 Emmy nominations during its run.
