Since 2020, the rap and hip hop world has been waiting for this day: the trial of Canadian rapper Tory Lanez (real name Daystar Peterson) in the alleged shooting of Megan Thee Stallion (Megan Pete). It has finally begun, and the testimony from day 1 is already proving to be incredibly shocking and emotional.

Even the moment the “WAP” rapper showed up in court proved to be contentious, with by-standers yelling both denigrating and complimentary things to her at the same time.

Reports from inside the courtroom, where the “Body” rapper took the stand to speak about that horrible incident in July 2020 where she was shot in the foot, are emerging. Here’s everything we have learned so far about the trial.

Megan gave emotional testimony

“I wish he would’ve just shot and killed me if I knew I was going to have to go through this torture,” she said on the witness stand, per The LA Times. She went on to say, per TMZ, that the hip hop community is very male-dominated, and that she has had to contend with misogyny from the community that assumes she is lying, even though she is not the one on trial.

“This whole story has not been about the shooting. It’s only been about who I been having sex with,” she said. “When people talk about Megan Thee Stallion getting shot, all the headlines are Megan Thee Stallion is on trial and I’m not on trial!”

She explained where that ‘stepped on glass’ narrative came from

Originally, Megan had told police officers that she had stepped on glass, rather than been shot in the foot. She explained during her testimony why that came about. “At the time, we are at the height of police brutality,” she said, referencing the murder of George Flloyd, per HuffPo

“I felt like if I said this man has just shot me, they might shoot first and ask questions later. I don’t feel safe in the car. I don’t feel safe with the police officers either,” she testified.

“In the Black community, it’s not really acceptable to be cooperating with police officers.”

She recalled how she felt the moment she was shot

If you missed the details over the past two years, it all began in July 2020 when Megan, Tory, and another friend drove away together from a party at Kylie Jenner’s house. An argument erupted in the car, and Megan asked to be let out. That’s when she says he pulled out a gun and shot her.

“I’m in shock. I’m scared. I hear the gun going off, and I can’t believe he’s shooting at me,” Megan said during her testimony, recalling the details of the shooting.

The “Savage” rapper has previously spoken about the shooting with Gayle King, revealing what Tory said as he shot her.

So I get out the car and it's like everything happens so fast," she told Gayle through tears. "And all I hear is this man screaming. He says, 'dance b***h' and he starts shooting."

"Because the adrenaline is pumping so hard I'm not sure if he hit me. Like, I feel it, but I don't understand what's happening," she recalled.

Tory Lanez is facing a lot of time behind bars

In October, Tory gave an interview to DJ Akademiks on his Off The Record podcast, claiming he’s facing 24 years for this.

Indeed, police have charged him with assault with a firearm, illegal weapons possession and negligent discharge of a gun. He recently was handcuffed and forced to pay an extra $100,000 on top of his $250,000 bail for talking about Megan and the case on social media, which violated a court order of no contact.

Tory has some powerful rapper friends seemigly speaking out against Megan

In November, Drake and 21 Savage released a track “Circo Loco” that seems to side with fellow Canadian Tory Lanez and denigrates Megan’s character. "This b***h lie 'bout getting shots, but she still a stallion/She don't even get the joke but she still smiling," he raps.

The “Hot Girl Summer” rapper shot back on Twitter, tweeting, “Since when tf is it cool to joke abt women getting shot!”

Tory Lanez involvement in the trial is unclear

The trial is expected to be short, only eight days, and it is not certain at this time if Lanez will take the stand in his own defense. He was present for Megan’s testimony, but reports suggest he took notes the entire time and didn’t look at her.
