Twitter is one of those social media platforms that can turn everyday people into mega-stars, and make mega-stars wish for the anonymity of everyday people. With lots of celebs like Kanye West and James Woods constantly going on Twitter rants with controversial opinions, it’s no wonder actress Evan Rachel Wood would want to just chuck her entire account into the garbage bin. Which is exactly what she did earlier this year, and now she’s finally revealing her motivations behind the Twitter dump.According to the
Westworld and
Thirteen star, she couldn’t tweet anything without tabloid headlines running with it and turning them into dramatic headlines.“And it would be, like, ‘Evan Rachel Wood goes on a rant!’ or ‘Evan Rachel Wood attacks this person!’” she told
Variety, adding that she deactivated her account so that the headlines didn’t detract from her work.Laughing, she added, “Honestly, I think it’s one of the best decisions I ever made! Really.”[video_embed id='5997505648001']RELATED: Evan Rachel Wood opens up about time in psychiatric hospital after suicide attempt[/video_embed]Earlier this year, Wood sparked a little hailstorm of criticism when
she pointed out on her now-deleted official Twitter account that Kobe Bryant had rape allegations in his history. Bryant had just passed in a tragic helicopter accident at the time of Wood’s tweet, which many felt was ill-timed.That wasn’t the first time Wood’s Twitter courted headlines. In 2013,
she clapped back at the MPAA (Motion Picture Association of America) for forcing a cut of her sex scenes in the movie Charlie Countrymen because her character experienced an orgasm. The violent images in the film, however, remained untouched.“The scene where the two main characters make ‘love’ was altered because someone felt that seeing a man give a woman oral sex made people ‘uncomfortable’ but the scenes in which people are murdered by having their heads blown off remained intact and unaltered,” she tweeted at the time. She added to the thread, saying that had the roles been reversed and her scene partner Shia LeBeouf’s character had experienced the orgasm, the scene likely wouldn’t have been cut.Luckily Wood has been using her time away from social media (and time off due to the COVID-19 lockdown) to enjoy quality time with her seven-year-old son Jack, whom she shares with ex-husband and actor Jamie Bell.“I’m privileged, so I’m fine,” she said. “However, quarantining with a small child evens the playing field a little bit. It’s been a wonderful mixture of chaos and precious moments.”[video_embed id='2044591']Before you go: Gwyneth Paltrow celebrates turning 48 in her birthday suit[/video_embed]
