Drizzy is Toosie Sliding his way on over to an apology. The rapper took to social media to (kind of) apologize to Kylie Jenner for calling her a “side-piece” in a collaboration with Future that accidentally leaked on May 20. Naturally fans were in their feelings over the lyrics, but Drake was quick to calm nerves by revealing that the song was never meant for public consumption in the first place.

"A song that Mark ran last night on Night Owl sound live set shouldn't have been played," the 6ix rep wrote on his Instagram stories May 21. “It's a song that leaked 3 years ago and got scrapped shortly after," he explained. "He was just going too deep in the drake/future catalogue. Last thing I'd want to do is wake up having any friends of mine feeling disrespected so I just had to say that to start off the day."

To be completely fair, it wasn’t only Drake that rapped about Kylie, according to E! News. Future also drops the lines, “Yeah, I'm a hater to society / Real s—, Kylie Jenner, that's a side piece / Yeah, I got 20 motherf——' Kylies." Drake also aimed at Kylie’s older sister Kendall and model Gigi Hadid though, rapping, “Yeah, I got 20 damn Kendalls / Young slim baddies and they in Vogue / Yeah, I got 20 f— Gigis.” It’s pretty obvious why he never wanted to release the track, huh?

Fans quickly honed in on the Kylie of it all though because of course Drake and Kylie have been romantically linked in the past following Kylie’s split from Travis Scott. Rumours quickly surfaced last fall that the pair were dating, but then their “relationship” was downgraded to just “hanging out.” At one point sources even claimed the pair wanted a “no-strings” relationship because they didn’t want to jeopardize their friendship.

For her part Kylie hasn’t really gotten into the drama, choosing instead to focus her own social media accounts on the European launch of her skincare line, Kylie Skin, and posting selfies from her gorgeous house. “My days are made up of zoom meetings and playing dress up,” she captioned a post on May 21 as her fans were getting their backs up on her behalf.

This isn’t the first time in the past few months that Drake has come under scrutiny for lyrics in one of his songs. Fans were also upset in early March when he dropped the surprise track “When to Say When” and rapped, “Baby mama fluke, but I love her for who she is,” referring to Sophie Brussaux, his son’s mother. Since then he’s definitely earned some goodwill back by sharing never seen before photos of both his son and Brussaux on Instagram.

Meanwhile the Champagne Papi has been keeping plenty busy while in self-isolation. After being cleared following a COVID-19 scare he announced a sixth studio album, which should come this summer. He also recently released a surprise mixtape, Dark Lane Demo Tapes, a 14-track compilation that features collaborations with Chris Brown and Future. As if that weren’t enough to pop a cork over, in April the singer also became the first male artist to have three songs debut as No. 1 on Billboard’s Hot 100 with “Toosie Slide,” “God’s Plan” and “Nice for What.”

Lyrical blips aside, it sure seems like he’s coming out on top of this whole quarantine thing.
