Constance Wu and Emma Roberts both had big baby news this weekend

It’s a boy and a girl. Emma Roberts and Constance Wu both had some big baby news over the weekend, giving fans something to celebrate as we head into the final few days of 2020. 

Roberts, who revealed she was expecting a baby boy over the summer with boyfriend Garrett Hedlund, reportedly gave birth on December 28. TMZ broke the news that the couple gave birth to a baby boy named Rhodes in Los Angeles, and that he weighed in right around the nine-pound mark. According to the publication both mom and babe are doing just fine, although no one from either of the celeb’s camps have officially confirmed the news.  

Considering Roberts hasn’t been shy about showing off her bump over the past few months after announcing that she was expecting, fans can only hope it’s a matter of time before she shares a snippet of the new family member on social media. And if not, perhaps new grandma Kelly Cunningham will come through. After all, it was the Scream Queen’s mom who accidentally confirmed the pregnancy news on Instagram before Roberts was ready to announce. 

Rhodes is the first baby for Roberts and Hedlund, who have been together for roughly two years now. They were first spotted holding hands in New York City back in March 2019, but have maintained a low-profile relationship following respective splashy romances in the past—Roberts with American Horror Story co-star Evan Peters, and Hedlund with Kirsten Dunst. 

This new bundle of joy could be exactly what this new family unit needs to push through during what has been a difficult year for everyone. Last month it came out that Hedlund had been arrested in February for a DUI, but he immediately sought treatment after being sentenced to 36 months of probation and three days of community service. Now his reps have said he’s in a “solid and great place,” so here’s wishing the entire family health and happiness in the New Year.

One celebrity who has definitely not wanted the spotlight on her new family is Constance Wu. The Crazy Rich Asians star reportedly welcomed her first child—a baby girl—with her musician boyfriend Ryan Kattner over the summer. According to E! News a source has confirmed, “They are doing great, they’re so excited and happy.” 

Fans shouldn’t expect any official updates in the near future though. In the year of 2020 it’s been easier than ever for people to go on the downlow with their pregnancies, and Wu seems to be following the trend. She hasn’t been seen out in public since February, when she walked the red carpet at the Queerties 2020 Awards Reception. As E! notes, the Hustlers star has also stopped posting to social media, having labelled both her Instagram and Twitter accounts as “defunct.”

While Wu may have taken some time off to expand her family, fans will still see plenty of her onscreen in the coming year. Her next project, I Was a Simple Man, is a sweeping family drama that debuts at Sundance in January. She’s also been keeping up with those comedic chops via her work on the upcoming Low Budget Ethnic Movie, the Daniel Yoon project that is currently in post-production. And she is also prepping to star in Mr. Malcolm’s List, a 19^th century period piece directed by newcomer Emma Holly Jones.

Wu and Roberts are just two of the latest celebrities who have quietly expanded their families in 2020. Nicki Minaj, Mindy Kaling, Amanda Seyfried, Rooney Mara and Joaquin Phoenix, Jessica Biel and Justin Timberlake, Leighton Meester and Adam Brody, and Sophie Turner and Joe Jonas are just some of the personalities who have had quieter-than-usual births as the pandemic shut down events across the globe and everyone hunkered inside for lockdowns and self-isolation.
