The first season of Cobie Smulders’ action-packed drama Stumptown may have wrapped last March, but she and her co-star Jake Johnson are still living in all of the memories that they made while filming the series. And really who could blame them? Between all of the stunts, hardcore storylines and buddy bar scenes between the onscreen besties, it looked like a total blast. So when Johnson ribbed Smulders about her How I Met Your Mother past and pressured her into reliving an iconic Robin Sparkles moment, fans everywhere were definitely there for it.In an Instagram Live chat for Vulture’s new Two Friends: A Nice Time Hanging Out With People Who Know Each Other Well (what a nice, succinct title), the stars showed off some of the iconic props they have hanging around their houses, revealed some little known facts about each other (Johnson is apparently obsessed with Carrot Top for some reason), and reminisced about shooting Stumptown together. But the real highlight came when Johnson convinced Smulders to invoke her Canadian alter ego Robin Sparkles and perform “Let’s Go to the Mall.” Because if people can’t actually go to the mall right now, the next best thing is obviously singing about it.
“Do you know it? I'm putting you on the spot, do you remember it?” Johnson asked, following prompts from HIMYM fans in the comments. When Smulders revealed that she definitely knows the beginning of the now-iconic ditty, Johnson forged ahead like the good friend that he is. “I don't want an 'I'm kind of shy' six! Give us a goddamn ten! We're all living [through] COVID-19, give us a damn ten!”“You're just doing this so… f—k you, Jake,” Smulders joked around the 10-minute mark. “I’m not going to sing this song. It is so upbeat, it is so crazy…” Of course she then launched into the opening chords, satiating fans for at least another six months. “That was awesome!” Johnson said. “I keep talking about making an acoustic version, but this is like the [beat],” Smulders added, playing the opening of the song for her co-star. She then tried to recall if he ever had to sing on New Girl for revenge, but she came up empty.Stumptown wrapped its first season in March, leaving fans with a nice, cliffhanger-free ending as everyone awaits word on a second season renewal. “When you start storylines, especially [ones that are] dramatic and affecting, I think you’ve gotta have a conclusion,” Smulders told Indiewire recently. “I’m not a big fan of dangling the carrot, like, ‘You gotta tune in next season if you want to see more!’ It was important for me, and I think it was important for our writers, to feel that conclusion.”A neat and tidy ending or not, it’s pretty clear that Smulders fans will always take more.[video_embed id='-1']BEFORE YOU GO: Just a pug in pajamas eating a snack in bed[/video_embed]
