Cardi B and Offset’s daughter, Kulture, recently celebrated her second birthday with a LOL Surprise Dolls themed party and gift from dad that would make any fashionista swoon. In a video posted to Offset’s Instagram, the couple’s toddler is seen helping her dad open one of  Hermes’ iconic orange boxes, this one containing a gorgeous hot pink bag — an Hermes Birkin, typically priced at around $8,000 US. It is, inarguably, an expensive, lavish gift for a two-year-old, and her parents may as well begin the countdown to the bag being covered in crayon or crammed full of half eaten peanut butter and jelly sandwiches.Unsurprisingly, the Instagram video drew internet outrage — and a clapback from Cardi. When fans and followers questioned whether or not a small child would derive any pleasure or enjoyment from an expensive designer handbag, Cardi shared her take, telling her online detractors that it isn’t all about what kids want.“Yea, kids only care about toys and candy,” said the star in an Instagram story. “But the thing is, kids also go outside. Kids go to restaurants, kids go to fancy places. Celebrity kids, they go do red carpets,” she argued. “And if I'm fly, and daddy's fly, then so is the kid. If I'm wearing Cha-nay-nay, my kid's having the same thing. It's not up to what the kids like. If it was the kids, they'd be outside in diapers.”The rapper also made a valid point when she said, “If I was looking like a bad b---h, expensive b---h, and I had my kid looking like a bum bum, then y'all would be talking s--t.” Sadly, that’s probably true.Still… $8,000.Of course it’s only natural that parents like their kids to look presentable and/or adorable in public (red carpet or no) but the thing about kids is that they’re already adorable in leggings and a t-shirt with spaghetti sauce on their faces. A fancy bag isn’t going to add much. That said, the criticism both Cardi and Offset have faced since the video was shared isn’t entirely justified: they earned their money, and they’re entitled to spend it however they choose (let’s not forget that Cardi coughed up a cool million for COVID relief recently). Also, they’re not the first celebs to buy small children pricey bags; Kim Kardashian brought a bunch of mini Louis Vuitton bags back from Japan for her daughters and nieces. But maybe the backlash is less about the bag and more about the bragging. If you buy your toddler a Birkin and you don’t Instagram it, did it even happen? Right now, when so many people are struggling in the corona-caused economic downturn, it’s tough to watch a kid pick up and then instantly discard an expensive bag. You can’t help but think of all the other ways that money could have been spent.[video_embed id='1856829']RELATED: Cardi B gifts husband Offset with $500,000 cash[/video_embed]
