Aside from music videos, Cardi B hadn't appeared in anything until this year, when she made her big-screen debut in
Hustlers. But considering what a success the stripper flick has been, it was only a matter of time before the rapper signed on to a new film project. While
Hustlers — which follows a group of savvy strip club employees who team up to turn the tables on their wealthy Wall Street clients — doesn't seem like much of a stretch for the former stripper, Cardi is out to prove there's more to her than removing clothing and rapping with little clothing on. The aspiring actress, born Belcalis Marlenis Almánzar, is set to add another role to her IMDB resumé — and like
Hustlers, which has grossed over $125 million worldwide and counting, it's is expected to be a strong performer.
Fast & Furious 9 just wrapped filming in the U.K. and the face of the franchise, Vin Diesel, posted a video on his Instagram to talk about how "blessed" he is — with Cardi by his side. "Day 86 here on the set of Fast 9. I know I'm exhausted," Vin said in the vid. "We all gave every single thing we could for this movie, put it on the table, put it all out there." That's when Cardi chimed in, saying how tired she also was but added, "I can't wait. I ain't gonna front, this is gonna be the best one." Vin laughed as Cardi continued, saying she was off to take a "nappy nap," which might be her (and our) new favourite saying.
Nothing is known about the plot just yet but Cardi joining the ranks is kind of amazing. She's not the only musical talent who will be in the movie; Ozuna will not only
make an appearance but the Latin singer will also supply music to the soundtrack. It's unknown whether Cardi will also add her own song (or more) but considering her track "Money" is almost synonymous with
Hustlers, we wouldn't be surprised if she released some fast, furious music for the ninth instalment of
F&F.Other newbies include John Cena, Michael Rooker and Finn Cole. They join franchise pros Diesel, Michelle Rodriguez, Jordana Brewster, Tyrese Gibson, Ludacris, Nathalie Emmanuel, Helen Mirren and Charlize Theron and her
bowl cut. Justin Lin, who directed
Fast & Furious 6, is back behind the camera once again.
