Brad Pitt just checked off another first in his long and celebrated career by winning Best Supporting Actor for his role as Cliff Booth in Once Upon A Time…In Hollywood. Pitt has been a big winner throughout this award show season and we’ve all been winners for getting to hear his joke-filled speeches, but Pitt took a break from his lighthearted commentary and got emotional on Sunday night for the monumental win.Presenter Regina King announced Pitt as the first winner during Sunday night’s telecast. Sitting in the first row, Pitt’s immediate order of business was to hug co-star Leonardo DiCaprio, who he thanked in his speech. Thankfully skipping the LDC (we never got used to that) and going with Leo this time, Pitt told his leading man “I’ll ride on your coattails any day, man. The view is fantastic.”[video_embed id='1896512']RELATED: Brad Pitt is actually a big 'Letterkenny' fan[/video_embed]Casting a wide net with his speech, Pitt opened on a political note, telling the audience that he had been given 45 seconds to speak, which he noted was 45 seconds more than the US Senate gave to John Bolton this week, referencing the former National Security Advisor who was denied the chance to speak during President Trump’s Impeachment hearings. “I'm thinking maybe Quentin does a movie about it. In the end, the adults do the right thing.” Praising his ‘original’ and ‘one of a kind’ director and writer Quentin Taratino, Pitt said "The film industry would be a much drier place without you.”Pitt also paid homage to his Once Upon A Time…In Hollywood character Cliff Booth, who plays a stunt man for Leonardo DiCaprio’s character. “I also wanna say, while we’re doing all this, I think it’s time we give a little love to our stunt coordinators and our stunt crews,” said Pitt. The actor finished his speech by thanking his parents for instilling his love of movies and praised his six children, whom he shares with ex-wife Angelina Jolie. “This is for my kids who colour everything I do. I adore you,” said a visibly moved Pitt.Pitt’s political and sentimental speech on Sunday night was a marked departure from his earlier trips to the podium this award season. Pitt missed last week’s BAFTA Awards to reportedly visit his estranged son Maddox, sending Once Upon A Time co-star Margot Robbie in his place. The actor made several jokes about the royal family in his speech, noting that like him, Britain was now single, referencing Megixt. He also joked that he would be naming his new BAFTA award ‘Harry,’ because he was really excited to bring it back to the US.The actor also took home a SAG Award in January, where he joked about Tarantino’s foot fetish and that he could relate to his character spending all day getting high, taking off his shirt and going home to no wife. “I’m going to add this to my Tinder profile,” said Pitt during his speech.Sunday’s award marks Pitt’s first Oscar for acting, which comes 24 years after his first nomination for Best Supporting Actor for 12 Monkeys. A seven-time nominee, Pitt won his first Oscar for his work as a producer in 12 Years A Slave.[video_embed id='1894254']BEFORE YOU GO: We investigate just who's writing Brad Pitt's awards season speeches[/video_embed]
