It’s no secret that Amy Schumer has always been an open book. After all, this is the same comedian that gave fans the now-famous “
Last Fuckable Day” sketch and felt confident enough to post her personal phone number on Instagram so that
fans with infertility problems could reach out and chat. But in a new interview with Howard Stern, the mama, actress, writer, and all-around multitasker is actually putting it all on the table.Schumer joined Stern on his SiriusXM radio show to talk about all of her upcoming projects, including her upcoming HBO Max special
Expecting Amy and a new Food Network show that’s debuting in May. But she also opened up about motherhood, her friendship with Oprah, and of course her sex life.
On motherhood
Fans know that Schumer’s first pregnancy with baby Gene wasn’t an easy one. She’s riffed about that time in her life on the stage and she’s been super candid on social media, as per usual. So it was pretty natural that she opened up about the journey with Stern, too. "It's scary because you can't nourish the baby or yourself. If you've ever had food poisoning, it's truly that for nine and a half months,"
Schumer said of her hyperemesis gravidarum diagnosis (say that three times fast). "Seriously, once you meet your baby, you're like oh my God! I would have been sick like that for 10 years just to meet you for an hour."
That love is exactly why Schumer and her husband Chris Fisher are hoping to add another babe to their brood in the near future. Schumer has been upfront about her IVF journey since the beginning, sharing injection bruise photos and all. But now, with the current coronavirus pandemic, those plans are on hold. “We got these embryos but right now, we were going to try and make a move and COVID happened," she said.
On marriage
Another thing Schumer and her husband Fisher have been pretty open about is the fact that Fisher has autism. Fans everywhere have supported the comedian for destigmatizing people on the spectrum in her act and in interviews, which she fully continued to do with Stern. "There's nothing I would change about him. With his brain and how he is socially, it's all good to me," she said before adding that she’s not the least bit concerned with whether her son winds up being diagnosed as autistic down the line. “There are so many parts of someone being autistic that make someone really brilliant, lovely and interesting,” she added. “A lot of my favourite people are on the spectrum."
Naturally Schumer also talked about the birds and the bees with the radio host, because what would a Howard Stern interview be without a little bit of sex talk? The 38-year-old revealed that she and Fisher have a schedule, but it works for them just fine. "Chris went down on me the other day…" Schumer said. "We're having sex once a week and feeling very good about that. It's good. And we go, ‘This is great. We should do this more' and we still only do once a week."
On her BFF Oprah Winfrey
Reese Witherspoon may have
some new competition in the Oprah BFF department. Before everyone went into lockdown mode and people were still doing things like tours, Schumer joined Winfrey on a leg of her
2020 Vision Tour in January. According to Schumer, that was just one instance of their deep friendship.“She flew me in and out the same day so I could be back with the baby. It was in North Carolina. The way you get paid is you get to hang out with Oprah," Schumer joked. "I had so much fun doing it. She's been so sweet. When Gene was born, she bought him a library that says ‘Gene's Book Club.’ She's really been there for me."
On self-isolation
Like many people facing social distancing in the world right now, Schumer is putting on a positive front and finding the silver lining. For her that means she gets to actually spend time with her family and bond. Heading to her friend’s place in Martha’s Vineyard for the long haul just made sense with a kid, because there aren’t a lot of fresh outdoor options in New York City where the family currently resides.“Gene can walk outside on the grass and we’re not terrified,” she said. “New York is tough. It was really heavy… I got to see him clap for the first time. It’s such a luxury to spend this time with the baby.”[video_embed id='1938583']RELATED: Selena Gomez opens up to Amy Schumer about hitting rock bottom to write ‘Rare’ songs[/video_embed]
