As the lights on Broadway and theaters around the world continue to remain dark, artists are coming up with creative ways to help entertain fans and raise money for the thousands who continue to be out of work in the wake of the ongoing Covid pandemic. The latest effort combines theater stars, a Pixar movie and Tik Tok. Like we said, creative ways.

Just announced this week, Tituss Burgess will star as the lead role of the upcoming Ratatouille: The Tik Tok Musical. Based on the beloved Pixar film, Burgess, who is best known for his Emmy nominated role on The Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt, will play aspiring chef and rat, Remy. Burgess made his Broadway debut back in 2005 in Good Vibrations and went on to star in Jersey Boys, Guys and Dolls, The Wiz and Jesus Christ Superstar. Burgess also originated the role of Sebastian the Crab in the Broadway production of The Little Mermaid, which means he has experience playing very small creatures with very big attitudes.

Burgess will be joined by Adam Lambert, who began his career on the stage touring with the production of Wicked. The solo popstar and sometimes Queen front man has previously performed in support of theater actors and causes close to Broadway, including the Broadway Bares to benefit Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS. Lambert will star as Emile in the upcoming musical.

Ashley Park, who was one of the breakout stars of this year’s over-the-top Netflix series Emily and Paris, will play the role of Collette. Park made her Broadway debut in 2014 as part of the ensemble of Mamma Mia! and later played Tuptim in The King and I. Park also originated the role of Gretchen Wieners in the Broadway production of Mean Girls.

Three-time Tony winner Kevin Chamberlin (Seussical, The Addams Family) will play Gusteau. Tony, Emmy and Grammy winner André De Shields (The Fully Monty, The Wiz) will appear as Ego and Wayne Brady will take on the role of Django. Brady is typically thought of mostly as an improviser and TV star, but the multitalented actor has also performed numerous times on Broadway, including his work on Chicago in 2004, Kinky Boots in 2015 and Freestyle Love Supreme in 2019. Brady has also enjoyed several impressive off-Broadway performances, including the role of Aaron Burr in the Chicago production of Hamilton.

The remaining roles in the impressive cast list will be made up by Andrew Barth Feldman, Priscilla Lopez, Owen Tabaka, Mary Testa, Cori Jaskier, Talia Suskauer, Nikisha Williams, JJ Niemann, John Michael Lyles, Raymond J. Lee, and Joy Woods.

Ratatouille has recently been revived on Tik Tok with several users uploading their own performances dedicated to the beloved film.

Backed by Seaview Productions, Ratatouille: The Tik Tok Musical will feature musical accompaniment from the Broadway Sinfonietta orchestra. The one-night only event will begin streaming Friday, Jan. 1 at 7 p.m. ET and be available for 72 hours. Tickets will cost $5 USD and all proceeds will go towards The Actors Fund, which provides assistance to those working in the theatre industry.
