Should Americans vote in the upcoming presidential election? It’d be a lot cooler if they did. That’s the mantra of the cast of Dazed and Confused, who are planning to reunite in support of the Democratic party in Texas. Alright, alright, alright. Looks like they’re almost out of beer, so it’s time to kick some election butt. The stars of the 1993 Richard Linklater film will be together once again, at least in a virtual capacity. Matthew McConaughey, Ben Affleck, Parker Posey, Jason London, Joey Lauren Adams, Adam Goldberg, Anthony Rapp, Rory Cochrane, Marissa Ribisi, Cole Hauser, Deena Martin, Esteban Powell, Christine Harnos, Wiley Wiggins, Michelle Burke, Mark Vandermeulen, Sasha Jenson, Jeremy Fox, Christin Hinojosa, Catherine Morris and Nicky Katt are confirmed to be participating in the reunion, which will take place on Sunday, October 11 starting at 7:30 p.m. ET. Comedian Patton Oswalt is set to moderate the event, which will include a script reading and Q&A. The event will help to raise money for March for Science and Voto Latino and to encourage voter participation in McConaughey’s native Texas. The event was announced after Texas governor Greg Abbott reduced the number of mail-in ballot drop off locations, a move many are citing as voter repression.  McConaughey, who has been active in helping his fellow Texans during the ongoing pandemic, previously participated in a virtual table reading of Fast Times At Ridgemount High, which raised money for Sean Penn’s CORE, a charity that has been helping those affected by COVID-19.Set in 1976, Linklater’s coming of age film centered around a group of teens celebrating their final day of high school. Based in Austin, Texas, the film included a cast of then-unknowns, including McConaughey, who had previously only been a background player in one feature film. A minor success at the box office when it was released, the film has gone on to achieve cult status thanks to its impressive cast and laundry list of famous one-liners.Dazed and Confused is the latest film that will stage a reunion to help raise money for the Democratic party and encourage people to vote in the upcoming election. Fans of Spinal Tap who make a donation in any amount will get to watch Oswalt moderate a reunion between the films’ stars and creators, including Rob Reiner, Harry Shearer and Michael McKean. The event, which is in support of the Pennsylvania Democratic Party, will be livestreamed on Wednesday, October 14 at 9p.m. ET. Several high profile reunions of fan favourite films and TV shows have already taken place over the past two months in support of the Democratic party. The cast of The Princess Bride, including Cary Elwes, Robin Wright, Carol Kane, Chris Sarandon, Mandy Patinkin, Wallace Shawn, Billy Crystal, Christopher Guest and Reiner appeared during the virtual reunion on September 13, which reportedly raised $4.25 million for the state of Wisconsin.Veep fans also got to see their favourite flawed politicians together again when the cast of the Emmy-winning HBO series reunited on Sunday, October 4. The show’s stars, including Julia Louis-Dreyfus, Anna Chlumsky, Reid Scott, Sam Richardson, Tony Hale, Tim Simons, Clea DuVall and Matt Walsh appeared in a virtual reunion moderated by showrunner David Mandel. The reunion, which was also in support of the Democratic party of Wisconsin, featured a handful of never before seen deleted scenes from Season 5, as well as new jokes written about Simons’ character Jonah Ryan.Remember when watching Veep was a hilarious form of escapism and not a more responsible version of the current real-life American government?
