The only couple more perfect than MJ Watson and Peter Parker (okay fiiiiiiine, Spider-Man) is the couple behind their characters: Zendaya and Tom Holland. The two had the classic friends-to-lovers story, and we wouldn't have it any other way.

Especially when the couple, who are ordinarily quite tight-lipped about their relationship, gush every once in a while about their mutual love and respect, like Tom did recently during his appearance on the “Smartless” podcast, hosted by Will Arnett, Sean Hayes, and Jason Bateman.

"I'm lucky that I have someone like Zendaya in my life," he said on Monday’s episode. "It's interesting being in a romantic relationship with someone that is in the same boat as you.”

After starring together in three Spider-Man movies, the pair were adamant they were just friends in the face of widespread speculation about a romance. But then they were outed when  paparazzi caught the two's first PDA sighting in July 2021, where they were kissing in a car driven by Tom. Since then, they have taken their relationship to the next level, going Instagram official in June 2022.

It is through those moments of swirling celebrity, rumours, fandom, and tabloids that Tom says he and Zendaya share common ground.

“You can share your experiences and all that sort of stuff. And that's worth its weight in gold," he said during the podcast.

This isn’t the first time he’s credited the “Euphoria” star with taking him by the hand through the perils of celebrity. In 2021, he told Backstage, "She was so helpful in the process of my life changing, because not only are you making big films and you're traveling the world, but everyone starts to know who you are. And you have to behave differently. You have a responsibility to kind of uphold this idea of being a role model to young kids. And, arguably, she's the best at that."

"It was so wonderful to have someone like her in my corner, to help me grow through that process," he said.

Then, in a cover story for GQ's Men of the Year issue, the “Billy Elliot” star said he and Zendaya "sort of felt robbed of our privacy" when paparazzi secretly snapped photos of them.

"One of the downsides of our fame is that privacy isn't really in our control anymore, and a moment that you think is between two people that love each other very much is now a moment that is shared with the entire world," he lamented.

Since then, Twitter has spread a viral rumor that the pair are engaged. There was zero evidence offered to back up the claim, but it came days after Us Weekly spoke to an unnamed source about the status of the co-stars' relationship. "They're both in settling-down mode and are absolutely planning for a real future together," the insider said.
