Contact lenses have come a long way in 30 years. From having to soak in solution every night, to having one-a-day throwaway lenses, it’s really easy to have great eyesight (or even change your iris colour) with easy-peasy lenses. So easy, it seems, that some people will forget about them and leave them in for days at a time.
Or in Tori Spelling’s case, 20 days, leading to an eye ulcer. Fam, don’t get lackadaisical about your eye care! Take it from the Beverly Hills 90210 star, who dished on her condition to co-star and bestie Jennie Garth on their podcast 9021OMG.
"It's my fault — I did this to myself," Tori, said during the chat, wearing the patch over her left eye. "So, I have contacts, but I wear daily ones, and at the end of the day, whatever, I can make all the excuses I want… I don't take them out. I sleep in them. It's not healthy."
This is not something Donna Martin would approve of. She had to address the eyepatch in the room not just because of the bandage, but because when she was out in public recently, she was spotted wearing a glittering eyepatch, like the one posted to her IG main feed.
Co-star Jennie Garth, who played Kelly on the iconic 90s show, then pressed her bestie for the number of days Tori has been keeping her lenses in. Everyone, set your faces to stun.
“Seven weeks. I’m exaggerating,” Tori joked. “But I’ve been known to go maybe 20 days. I know you, guys, it’s shaming. I tell my eye doctor, I’m completely transparent, so anyway.”
“So I got an eye ulcer,” she added. “I got an ulcer on my left eye.”
Noting that her doctor told her how lucky she was to get a relatively small condition as a result of such neglect, Tori continued, “I’m going to switch to 30-day ones when this heals.”
She also dished on the healing process. “Seven to 10 days, it totally rejuvenates. I got lucky this time. I’m not going to take it for granted, it’s huge. Forget work, but to mom with one eye. Not OK because moms have to literally hear and see everything happening at one time and I cannot.”
She then joked that her daughter has become her “designated seeing-eye child.”
The legendary 90s teen star first mentioned her condition in a March 24 Instagram Story. "Thx to all the well wishes and concern. Everyone is asking if I scratched my cornea. It's actually an ulcer on my eye," she said, per People. "Antibiotic drops and Dr said it will 'hopefully' heal in 7-10 days."
