It’s almost time to hand out the golden buckets of popcorn. On May 7th, the 2023 MTV Movie and TV Awards will air with host Drew Barrymore, and the nominations are a who’s who of your favourite action stars, TV stars, and chart-topping hitmakers.

 

Top Gun: Maverick, Stranger Things and The Last of Us lead the pack with six nominations each, while The White Lotus and Wednesday trail closely behind with four nods each. Other big name productions that are also Oscar-nominated movies include Avatar: The Way of Water, Elvis, and Black Panther: Wakanda Forever.

 

 

Of course, this wouldn’t be the MTV awards without some of our longtime favourite, and incredibly unique categories, like Best Kiss (presented by Cheetos, just don’t eat any before the kiss), Best Villain, Best Hero, Best Fight, and Most Frightened Performance.

 

Those are definitely the categories to watch, because fan favourites litter the nominations. Jenny Ortega (Wednesday) and Pedro Pascal (The Last Of Us) are up for Best Hero, Harry Styles (Don’t Worry Darling) and *checks notes* the actual Cocaine Bear are up for Best Villain, Jennifer Coolidge (The White Lotus) is up for Most Frightened Performance, and the Cheetos-sponsored Best Kiss has  Harry Styles and David Dawson (My Policeman) up against Selena Gomez and Cara Delevingne (Only Murders In The Building). 

 

Songs featured in the movies are also up for a coveted golden bucket, and the big nominated names include Demi Lovato, Doja Cat, Lady Gaga, Rihanna, and Taylor Swift.

 

It seems no one was snubbed this year, even host Drew Barrymore has been nominated for– get this – Best Host!

 

There are two new categories this year - Best Reality On-Screen Team and Best Kick-Ass Cast, meaning there are more ways to cast your vote. That’s right, from now until April 17, you can vote on the MTV site for your faves to win, and you can vote up to 20 times a day.
