The BBC’s magazine-style interview program The One Show probably couldn’t believe their luck when the team scored the first season two sit down with The Morning Show stars Jennifer Aniston and Reese Witherspoon. That is, until it actually happened… at which point things went downhill fairly quickly.

Co-host Jermaine Jenas found himself in live-television hot water after Aniston went down the path of discussing some of the behind-the-scenes research work she did for her role on the set of real-life American earlybird talk show, Good Morning America. “I learned the slow burn that it is. It’s a very vampire state of life and mind that you guys live in,” she said, commenting on the necessity of being on set before the sun is up. “Everybody comes alive in the middle of the night, and it’s a slow-moving train. I got there at five in the morning,” she explained, “and the hallways were quiet and people are just slowly waking up, and then all of a sudden, the train starts moving and it gets crazier and crazier. It’s utter chaos.”

Did someone say chaos? What a coincidence, because we’re heading in that precise direction. “Reese, I’ve got to be honest with you,” said Jenas, interrupting Aniston’s answer, “Jennifer’s pretty much sold it to me that she’s not a morning person.”

That’s when Jen gave Jenas the look. You know the one — it’s the face she made every time Ross nearly imploded his relationship with Rachel. Brace yourselves. It all goes down around the 3:15 mark.

“Did I sell that to you?” Aniston asked in a voice that indicated she was the opposite of amused. “Did I get a good deal?” she asked.

Reactions on social media were mixed, with some fans defending Jen’s reaction while others said she was being overly defensive.

Still, others thought that Jen was just being herself — and not in a problematic way.

Either way, Aniston’s co-star seemed to feel the need to step in and smooth things over, smiling and chatting about how Jen was a night owl who complemented her early-bird style: “I’m definitely a morning person,” said Witherspoon. “Jen and I talk about this all the time. I’m the morning person and she’s more of a night person. So, it actually works out because I do kind of the early morning scenes, and then by 4 o’clock I’m toast, and then Jen starts around 11 and 12, and then she can do the night scenes because I can’t even think straight past 4 p.m.,” she explained.

As for The One Show’s hosts, they’re still in recovery. Zoe Ball, who was sitting in for regular interviewer Alex Jones, described the experience this way: “Jennifer Aniston was on the show with Reese Witherspoon. We’re still all just getting over that moment of talking to Jennifer Aniston.”
