The Weeknd continues to prove he’s one of the hottest musicians of 2021, and now he’s got a hot new pad in Bel-Air to celebrate his success. A $70 million home, to be exact.
According to the Wall Street Journal, Abel Tesfaye, who fans know and love as The Weeknd, dropped serious coin on the house previously owned by Dutch media mogul Reinout Oerlemans and his wife, Danielle. They reportedly sold after being approached by The Weeknd’s realtors, closing one of the biggest real estate deals in L.A. so far in 2021.
The 33,000 square-foot home sits on an impressive 1.6 acres of property overlooking the Bel-Air Country Club. It’s got all of those amazing extras you’d expect a $70 million mansion to have, like a sports court, a spa with a sauna and a hammam, an indoor pool and an outdoor infinity pool with a waterfall, a movie theatre and a gym.
Perhaps most importantly for The Weeknd, the house also features a music studio, where he can conceptualize and create all of those smash hits. The home also has nine bedrooms, so he can invite all of his famous friends and Toronto pals for extended luxe sleepovers any time he feels like it.
Described as “modern and dramatic,” the house also has features like high-gloss orange walls and a black fireplace, an industrial-style office, a formal dining room with another fireplace, and a kitchen with copper cabinets featuring custom handles made from leather belts.
Maybe these new digs are The Weeknd’s way of celebrating breaking the record for having the most consecutive weeks (88) on The Billboard Hot 100 list with “Blinding Lights.” Previously, the record was held by “Radioactive” by Imagine Dragons.
Of course, he could also be celebrating any of his other recent achievements, including performing at the Super Bowl halftime show in February or also breaking the Hot 100’s record number of weeks in the Top 5 (43), passing The Chainsmokers' "Closer," featuring Halsey, and Ed Sheeran's "Shape of You," which each had a 27-week run there.
There’s no word on when the artist will move into his new home or when he might leave his old $25 million Beverly Hills penthouse. Whether he holds onto that home or sells it also remains to be seen.
Your move, Grammys. Your move.
