Joshua Jackson continues to prove that he and Jodie Turner-Smith are the ultimate couple goals

Joshua Jackson is back but this time he’s lending his voice to a new thrilling Canadian Audible Original: Oracle.
The suspenseful thriller written for audio by Canadian author Andrew Pyper follows Nate Russo, voiced by Joshua Jackson, a police psychic who helps track down an elusive serial killer. He finds the missing and murdered by reading those close to them, which is an unwanted gift for Russo that comes with a terrible price.
Jackson told Etalk’s Danielle Graham that his wife Jodie Turner-Smith hasn’t heard the audiobook yet but she did read Oracle.
“She read the book because we almost always reach each other’s work just to make sure that we're not fools but she hasn’t heard the book yet,” he said. “It’s really nice to have another actor that you trust to be like, ‘I think this is good. What do you think?’ And have their perspective on it.”
Jackson + Turner-Smith = Ultimate Couple Goals
Jackson and his wife Turner-Smith are the ultimate couple goals from leaving thirsty comments on each other’s Instagram pictures to championing each other in the press and, of course, the beautiful family they've created. The Canadian actor opened up about how it feels to have all of the internet rooting for them.
“It feels pretty damn good to be in a loving, supporting marriage to have this amazing woman in my life but also to witness her becoming a mother and this journey that she’s been on. It’s been the most important and transporting experience of my life.”
On Fatherhood
Jackson and Turner-Smith welcomed their daughter Janie in April 2020 and the Canadian actor has admitted that becoming a parent makes every cliché true.
“Jodie says it all the time. She’ll catch sight of our daughter doing something and she just [says], ‘I don’t think I could love this little girl any more’ and I’m like ‘until tomorrow.’ It’s just the craziest thing. You think you’ve reached the maximum level and then the next day you wake up and you’re like, ‘Oh my God, it’s even more today. How is this possible?’”
Oracle is the first book that Jackson has narrated but he is no stranger to reading people stories because Janie is all about storytime.
“Goodnight Moon is in her top five. We do three books every night. There’s only one book that isn’t every night. She gets to pick the books and there’s this one book called Bedtime Bonnet that is her every night go-to. Goodnight Moon is in there… there’s a book called I Believe that’s made the cut for the last four days,” he said of the nighttime reading routine.
Narrating his first audiobook and working with Canadian material
When it comes to narrating Oracle, Jackson said it allowed for him to let his imagination run wild.
“It’s a lot of fun. I love to read so this was a happy place for me anyway and to have the opportunity to be responsible for the whole narrative, not something an actor gets to do very often or ever. The reason that I wanted to do this book rather than something else is that it is a real page-turner,” Jackson shared. Spoken like an avid reader.
“It starts very fast. It lets you catch your breath for just a second and then it’s just a freight train right to the very end,” he added.
The Dawson’s Creek alum said that when listeners meet his character Nate, he is a bit of a broken man.
“He’s a big hulking dude who has been blessed or cursed with the ability to — when he makes physical contact with somebody to see into their past or somebody they love's past or their present or their future and it has eventually led him to this place where the FBI has recruited him to help with unsolved murders,” Jackson explained.
Pyper has often been referred to as Canada’s Stephen King and Jackson was excited to work with his material.
“As a very proud Canadian and a very proud Vancouverite, it is lovely to get to work on Canadian material. I also love that the story itself is actually set in the [United] States and American storytellers give themselves the permission to tell everybody else on the rest of the planet's stories and I love that he gave himself permission to tell a story set in the United States,” he said.
“I think I would love to see more of that from our side of the border because we certainly have the talent at every level… There’s no reason why we can’t broaden our storytelling out to include other stories than just Canadian stories.”
His upcoming starring role in Dr. Death series
Jackson also spoke about Dr. Death, the new series he stars in with Christian Slater, Alec Baldwin and Dominic Burgess.
Jackson plays Dr. Christopher Duntsc — a surgeon who uses his scalpel to destroy the lives of his patients and moves between hospitals to continue injuring different patients.
“Your brain should want to reject it because he’s so outrageously bad as an individual and then something that is hard for us as Canadians to wrap our head around – you know I’ve been down here for a long time and the American medical system still kind of boggles my mind,” the 43-year-old said.
“The man himself was truly horrendous and a terrible human being but he was only able to be that terrible because the system down here is built to protect people like him rather than to protect the people he’s mangling,” Jackson said, making us clutch our Canadian health cards.
Jackson said that filming Dr. Death was a very intense mental space for him to be in for six months but the love and support that his wife showed him during that time is “invaluable.”
“I just cannot thank her enough for being the wonderful woman she is,” he added.
