Shutting it down on the streets of Manhattan in a feather dress? Not so much.

Jennifer Hudson’s latest performance in Respect, the much anticipated Aretha Franklin biopic, is getting rave reviews. The 39-year-old is currently on the media circuit promoting the flick and this week made an appearance on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert to talk about her role. She and Colbert even sang one of Aretha’s most famous songs, “You make me feel like a natural woman,” together during the segment, which was pretty dang sweet.

Leading up to the glam appearance on the talk show in her showstopping dress, the award-winning actor was spotted in Midtown Manhattan taking a break from the beautification chair to stretch her legs. The star didn’t let her work-in-progress locks, which were pinned in curls against her head, stop her from stepping out on the busy streets of NYC. In fact, she looked polished in a loose black blazer and trousers—and so, so relatable, too.
