Emma Corrin (aka The Crown’s endlessly charming Princess Diana) is using their Instagram platform (670,000 followers thank you very much) to open up the conversation about nonbinary and transgender body dysmorphia — and the tactics employed to combat it.

Earlier this week, Corrin shared several pictures of themself with their chest bound in elastic athletic bandages, writing: “Some time before I bought my first proper binder, messing around with @sirdavidsimon, we used boxing wrap,” they explained.

“Thanks for capturing this with me, very intimate, very new, very cool. It’s all a journey right. Lots of twists and turns and change and that’s ok! Embrace it.”

Heeding the wisdom of medical professionals who warn that provisional DIY binders can impede breathing and circulation, Corrin added, “Bind safely, find what works for you — I use binders from @gc2b :) and @spectrumoutfitters is great too.”

Corrin’s advice on binding came with an implicit, perhaps more important message: that it’s okay to sift through different gender identities until you uncover a space that’s most comfortable for you as an individual.

For Corrin, that’s been an evolving process, one that they first made public last April with a photo on Instagram with them posing in a wedding dress captioned “ur fave queer bride.” They also added to Insta that their gender pronouns are she/they.

What’s clear is the level of support Corrin has from fans, demonstrated in the comments section.

"I love you so much," wrote 13 Reasons Why actor Tommy Dorfman. “Beauty,” commented Skins star Kaya Scodelario while Jennifer Garner weighed in with a trio of heart emojis.

Corrin, who is currently filming the LGBTQ+ themed drama My Policeman alongside Harry Styles (also known for his gender-blurring fashion sense) also received a compliment from Styles’ go-to designer Harris Reed, whose one-word comment simply read “Angel.”

Famous friends and admirers aside however, the most touching comment came from a parent of a transgender child who wrote, “Thank you for stating which binder you use. My child recently came out to me and told me they wanted one. I’d no clue where to look or who to ask.”
