Megan Fox slams critics of her age gap with Machine Gun Kelly

In Hollywood (and really, the world), it is acceptable in society for men to date younger women. Many of our favourite leading men like George Clooney, Sean Penn, Jack Nicholson, James Woods, and Zach Braff almost exclusively pair up with younger women, and no one bats an eye, something which is irking actress Megan Fox in her new interview with InStyle.
Megan, who is famously loved-up with boyfriend Machine Gun Kelly (real name Colson Baker), has been taking some sexist heat from society due to their age difference. Except their age difference is … *does the math*… a paltry four years. And she’s had enough of the double standard.
"You want to talk about patriarchy?" she says. "The fact that he's four years younger than me, and people want to act like I'm dating a younger man. He's 31, and I'm 35. Granted, he's lived like he's 19 his whole life, but he isn't 19. No one would blink twice if George Clooney was dating someone four years younger."
Can we get an amen?
"Four years? Go f*** yourself," she continues. "We would have been in high school together. That's so ridiculous that women are treated that way."
Yes! TESTIFY!
The InStyle profile, with new photography by Alex Harper and creative director Peyton Dix, is full of clap-back moments like this, where Megan reflects on her career since Jennifer’s Body and Transformers, and how the sexist Hollywood machine, including the critics circles dominated by male reviewers, sought to tear her down for things that men get away with all the time.
Specifically, the profile reflects on some of the reviews of Jennifer’s Body written by men that panned the film because, as one dude wrote, “If you're in search for a way to ogle Megan Fox's body, there are a lot better ways to do it than subjecting yourself to this.” Ugh. Just UGH, dude.
She also says that because her 2010 film Jonah Hex was so widely panned, she has never watched it, but since its resurgence on social media as a cult classic, she recently sat down for a viewing. “I got crucified for that movie, just brutalized in the reviews. But something came over me, and I said, f*** it, I'm going to be brave and watch it." She said watching it fully made her realize that the Hollywood machine was more interested in watching her fail because she’s a woman rather than lifting her up for her talent.
“I had this incredible breakthrough, and I realized that I had been living in a self-imposed prison for so long because I let other people tell me who I was or what I wasn't. I hid because I was hurt.”
The profile also touches on her famous firing from Transformers after her harsh critiques of Michael Bay in interviews hit a nerve, although post #MeToo she has been somewhat vindicated by numerous reports of his bad behaviour toward women on set.
All of this comes on the heels of some no drama/drama between Megan and ex-husband, 90210 star Brian Austin Green, when she commented on his latest IG post, saying she was “grateful” for his new girlfriend Sharna Burgess.
Some wondered if this was Megan taking a snide jab at her ex (because, y’know, sexism), but Brian himself took to his IG Stories to clear her name.
“For people that need or want clarification, Megan and I get along great," he wrote in the story, via People. "Neither of us are sending petty digs to each other."
"We both work really hard to get along and coparent well for our kids," he continued. "Now, stay safe and spread kindness and love."
