Millie Bobby Brown isn’t so sure that even after four seasons, her Stranger Things ‘80s style wardrobe has influenced the way she dresses. Brown, who plays Eleven on the series and is often seen in staples from the decade like neon-printed shirts, suspenders, and scrunchies, does have a pop-culture style icon or two. One current, the other historical.

“Working on Stranger Things certainly opened my mind to the style and staples of the '80s, which has been a fun journey,” the actor told Cosmopolitan. “The colours, the patterns, the volume. But I wouldn’t say that I’ve woven that into my personal style much.”

When it comes to deciding what to where when she’s not on set, however, it’s other stars who influence her choices. “I don’t know that I have a favourite,” she told the magazine, but added, “I will always reference Audrey Hepburn as someone who just exudes elegance and style. That being said, I also think Zendaya makes really interesting fashion choices and always looks amazing!”

When it comes to her own particular sartorial path, Brown says that style in general is “constantly evolving, and my personal style is no exception. That’s the beauty of fashion. Since I was a young girl, my style has ranged from boho chic to glamorous sparkles to comfy sweats and back again.” The actor adds that when it comes to fashion missteps, she accepts that they happen to everyone — and that they’re not the end of the world (even when photos of the offending outfit are splashed all across the internet). “I try not to live my life in regret,” says Brown. “There might have been an interesting aeroplane look or two over the years… but comfort is always key!”

Even on the red carpet, Brown seems to side more with the sentimental, memory-making aspect inherent in fashion as opposed to the glamour for glamour’s sake side of the business. Asked about her favourite red carpet outfit, she told Cosmo, “It’s hard to pin down just one moment, as so many have their own special meaning to me. If I had to choose, I guess I would say the Calvin Klein By Appointment look I wore to my first Emmys as a nominee in 2017. It was so special and everything I hoped for and envisioned for that experience.”
